Why are some Scotty Camerons $300 while others are $3000? Does it just look cool, is a collectable, etc? Or is there a physical difference (it's a better putter)?

I don't care if you think they are not worth it, so don't even bother posting that. I just want to know why some are $300 and others are thousands.

Thanks.

My best guess is that the $300 putters are the ones that are more mass produced using his design. The $3000 putters are specially hand made by Scotty himself that are rare in that no two would be exactly alike or that only a few were made in that style. Again, this is just my guess. I base this on nothing other than what little I know about manufacturing and how prices are set based on supply and demand.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Tour issue.. Circle T's go for a ton, just like any tour club does. Some of the tour clubs are also made of GSS, which is verrry expensive, w hich ups the price tag a big. Some are made in very limited amounts, etc etc.

Yeah I think its just a collectors or rarity kind of thing. The tour issued ones are usually very expensive, but their not really all that much different from their mass produced cousins. I read someplace that tiger uses a GSS studio stainless cameron that is super expensive. Like a 5k putter. But for the life of me i cant understand why german stainless steel is different from american stainless steel or other kind of steel. I just barley passed chemestry in college, but im pretty certain steel is graded by number (303, 304 etc) and not nationality.

Supply and Demand. The SC's selling for thousands are rare and unique. Circle T's (Tour) are very rare and Circle L's (loser) are INSANELY rare.

I read that the model(not his actual putter keep in mind) he uses is 50k. Who has that much money and is obsessed enough to spend 50k on a putter

Assuming Tiger paid for the putter he has. In relative terms as to the effect on his pocket book the following may be slightly interesting:

$50,000putter / ~$120,000,000income * 100 = 0.04167% of income for Tiger $300 putter / ~$65,000 income *100 = 0.461% of income for average golfer purchasing a Cameron So what is the point? Sure I would like to have a $50,000 dollar putter, I would use it from tee to green every round. =) -E

I don't know where you read that. It's a pretty standard Newport configuration. Other Titleist staffers (Brad Faxon among them) use far more unique and custom putter "models" than Tiger.

Where on earth did you read that? Absolute nonsense. His putter is a very standard SC that would be worth er..I mean would have cost (but not to Tiger) a few hundred dollars.

But if Tiger wanted to SELL his putter, it would go for considerably more than 50k.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Tiger's putter is made of GSS. Check on eBay, most GSS putters sell for at least a couple thousand. I doubt Tiger had to pay for his, but it is a very expensive putter.

That's more a matter of supply vs. demand and rarity.

I'm not sure I understand the point of your post... What you've posted and linked to doesn't speak to the fact that the

model Tiger uses is not $50k. It's just a Newport. The article you linked uses "model" to mean "copy" because it says there are four of these "models" available. Yeah, there may be four Newports out there with "TIGER" and "WOODS" stamped in 'em. I'm not sure I see the point of this discussion...? Oh well.

I'd take that putter over 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 BMW 5-series ANY day.

The point I'm trying to make is that Tiger's putter is definitely not worth only a couple hundred even though it is a pretty standard styled putter. The small amount of GSS putters available makes them more expensive.

If anyone is interested in Tiger's putter, there's a relevant discussion by the experts over at the Cameron Collector:

http://www.cameroncollector.com/foru...c,47375.0.html The most relevant post is near the end:
The [Tiger Woods] back up putter we had at Plaza Golf was purchased privately several years ago. It did not come from the Studio, but from another collector. It was as much purchased for a conversation piece in our Cameron displays as for being available for sale. It rotated back and forth over the years at our Torrance and West Los Angeles golf shops. It almost sold about 3 times over the years, but we really did not care. For those interested the putter did sell for $43,000 and was priced at $50,000.00. In our retail stores we always mark up very expensive items, because everyone wants to negotiate, like on a car. The putter was purchased by a man who came in with his son to buy him an off the rack Cameron. He saw the Tiger Back up, put a deposit down, and paid the balance a couple of days later. He is not a member of this site and seems to be a very busy business man. A few days later he came in and bought a Scotty Cameron Newport that was made for Greg Norman. That also was purchased privately ( not from the Studio ) by Plaza Golf. We are always looking for really rare putters and they don't always come from the Studio. Just wanted to clear the air and give the facts so everyone knows. By the way I think Tiger's actual gamer is worth at least 3 million. If it were to go to a major auction house I think it would go for more than that. Of course I doubt that Tiger will ever let that putter go. Eddie would know more about that. I could only see him one day possibly auctioning it off for a charity, but I am only guessing. I would think it might mean too much to him. I hope Tiger breaks Jack's major streak with that putter. Rand

Did you catch that Tiger's gamer may be worth over $3 million?!

The scotty I use has a GSS facial insert, which works incredibly well. When you come to think of it, the softest feeling putter you could make would be a mixture of GSS and gold. That would be SOOOO expensive. But if tiger managed to break Jack's record, just think how much THAT putter would be worth.

doesn't SC custom make tiger's putter himself? I don't think its any ordinary newport

Man insert beating dead horse smiley :), well the stupid iPhone doesn't cut and paste or I'd post some links but in regards to the head style it's a plain old Newport 2 studio stainless. There are special cosmetic diffs, the big cherry dot on the face and the vertical Scotty Cameron stamp on the face. I think it also has tiger woods on the rear bumpers. Also think it's a plain sole.

It is one of the solid "GSS" versions, but from what I read the whole german stainless thing is really Scotty speak for select 303 stainless...

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
