Driving over doglegs?

Does anyone here make the attempt to cut doglegs? I am playing in a local tournament in 3 days and see 2 doglegs on the course where there is no hazard danger if i try. The tree height is unknown as of yet. The carry from google is 230 on one and 240 on other for trees which would probably make it a high launch 260 to be totally clear of the trees and one bunker,

the total distance tee to green is 300 and 320 with a greenside bunker or two. Its a charity scramble but we get to post a score on each hole, the best individual score of our 4some gets posted.

Im using driver on hole regardless since its me 2nd best %club if i hit into the dogleg i might be in trouble anyway by outdriving the bend.

Depends on how im shooting monday i guess. just looking for thoughts and experience. high reward but moderate risk if I land along side green in 1. or better yet on it!

Depends on the layout and risk/reward of the hole.

You might also want to take into consideration the position of your playing partners. If you're the last to tee off and the other three are all in trouble you might not want to risk it so your team has a better change of getting a par out of the hole, if the other three are all in the middle of the fairway, on the other hand, then fire away and try to cut the dogleg.

I agree with another poster who sez, depends on how much more it will get you. If not much, don't bother, or if fraught with perils don't do it. Its a scramble so you got, and I'm assuming, 4 shots at it.

Personally speaking I will usually cut a dog leg cuz my drives are 260-275, unless of course the risk is more than the reward.

Yes. It depends entirely on the situation at the time. You need to consider the positions of your playing partners, how well you've done so far, your striking, the wind, tree height. In other words, don't go onto the hole blinkered to hitting over.

Looks like it's hard to cut the dogleg with the trees so near the tees. Maybe a big power draw.

Those trees look pretty close to the tee box. Just hit a big rope hook.

I cut doglegs only when confident that I can hit the shot. In a scramble I will as long as we have 1 in play and the shot is even remotely possible.

Yea i saw that too. Im not good enough to dial up a power draw on demand. Might try to skirt the tree line on left and if it draws then it will roll to approach. I dont slice so no concern there. The big issue is launch angle for me esp if its a tight squeeze over the trees. The trees at end of carry look mature so they may be in play. last time i tried this it worked, but the launch was low and ball carried uphill 290 or so and cut off about 70 yards from the dogleg. 5 feet to right or left on the flight path and it would have been in a tree. I need to use the low kick driver, or is it the hi kick?

Im gonna steal a cart when the outing is on the range and look at the hole, if I have honors Ill let the others play first and hope one is in play, hell with it! you only live once

Cant wait to post results. if it goes into fairway on left its still in a good spot...nobody better steal my ball.

Low = higher launch and high = lower launch... but why on earth would you change drivers to hit one shot, what about the other 10-13 drives?

You seem a little obsessed with the possibility of hitting it over this dogleg. Some courses allow that type shot, others don't... I wouldn't try to force something just to do it, and I sure as hell wouldn't change drivers to do it. You will hit over many doglegs in your golfing lifetime, just let things happen naturally. Really, most of the time it's just the difference in being 30-60 yards away with a perfect shot, or playing it from 140 after an easy iron or hybrid to the dogleg. Most of the time it's just best to play the safe shot that you know you can hit... this is a scramble, so maybe take a shot, but in normal play, usually it's best not to play shots with low probability of success.

this is the other one ...probably 320 from tee to green, this is a awesome course so ive been told.... so a nice poke on that corner could go the green for me after a nice bounce and roll. im a little less certain of bombing it close to the homes.

i carry two drivers and no woods and their identical in * and stiffness and length. Taylor Made rx5 i think. I usually use the high kick since its my used driver head, the new driver head is the low kick. Yes I am obsessed. I love this damn game. Especially when going to a new course, the anticipation is intense. FYI I had my best round last monday a full 9 strokes lower than my previous personal best. I played with a 5HC player and a high teen HC and beat them both down handily. The driver and I finally see eye to eye. It is my strength, it is my precious. LOL that was just funny.

Really Im just stoked about the last round and how I played. I have the potential to score in the high 70's if I play the way I played monday. its been a long struggle to finally click in a round.

My second hole at my club really demands a 'high cut' over the conifers which form the dogleg for a 6 iron in. I am a 19 handicapper and can't shape the ball at all but that's exactly what i intended and did!

      Of course there's not a simple or knowable answer here. But the whole Caitlin Clark phenomenon is a nice example IMO. Suddenly there was wall to wall media coverage and national attention and... the women's tournament got similar ratings to the men's and much higher ratings than the men in the final four. With every indication that there will be some portion of the uptick that remains going forward. And there's the whole element that Sue Bird brought up. That basketball needed a pretty enough white superstar guard. One who looks like the "cute little white girls" that describes most of the soccer USWNT that's been able to achieve much higher popularity than any version of women's basketball, which is dominated by black players and none of any race who could be described as little... I do think women's sports are in a good place to start taking off more though. It's really only in the coming 5-10 years that the majority of girls will start to come of age with post Title IX grandmothers (as in their grandmothers were allowed to be serious athletes). I don't follow men's or women's basketball much, but in golf for sure the women's tour has gotten much deeper over the past 20 years and only looks to keep going in that direction. I've heard the same about women's basketball. And the patriarchal attitudes that socialized girls out of sports and everyone out of women's sports fandom aren't gone but have def diminished.

      I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
