I just thought I would share my progress for anyone who is interested. I am attemping to play as much golf as possible and as many tournys as the bank accound will let me. I am just not ready to give up on a childhood dream just yet as at 24 years old if feel im still young enough to take a few risks . I took 2 years off from golf from 2004-2006 due to family and work issues but the itch was too strong and I felt I had to give it a shot and see what can happen. I have spent the last year practicing hard and working with my coach monthly to get my game back to where it was in my late teens and I feel its back if not stronger. If you all dont mind reading the progress and goals of hopeful golfer, then ill try and update you on how things go.

Second tourny of the year is done with a solid -3 69 and +1 73, which I was extremely happy with. Gusting winds and a cold day made playing conditions not ideal but sure makes you spend a little more time over your shots. Finished at -2 and was super happy with over all out come and look forward to a couple more events in the next month. I tried a new ball this week aswell which i found to be really solid and the spin was nicely controlable (Taylormade TP Red). The new driver(taylormade R9) is really feeling consistant and my fairway% was definatly up this week. I have been putting the ball the best I have ever and I feel confident that I can make most of the putts. Hopefully things will continue to stay strong and with a few VGT events in the next month I am looking forward to see if I can get a couple solid finish's. The buy-ins are a little steep for the pro division but If I can continue to finish in the money then that will help out some. Next tourny is April 28 and May 4, maybe one earlier if the work shedual will allow it.

at +.1, you are elegible to try to play your way onto the Canadian Tour at the q-school. The minimum requirement is a 2 handicap index. The only promblem is the 2400$ entry fee.

Good luck with everything

Thanks for the well wishes. I think a sponser or two would be a big help before shelling out the big cash for entry fees. A good summer season with decent finishs and who knows maybe someone could lend a helping hand and that would kick start things in a big way. Thanks for the support and ill keep ya all posted.

With your handicap at 24 your still young IMO. Good luck, and hopefully you can make something good happen for yourself. Im in your area, If and what BCGA tourneys are you playing in? Im probably familiar with some of the course's/events.

If your bank can support it - go for it! Finishing under par in almost every tourney you have played in this year is solid! Good luck and keep at it!

Well It was a fun week and a half. I played 2 events and had 1 good out come. First event was a 2 day tourny and it was pissing rain both days. I shot a 77 and then a 74 which was a good score for the weather conditions and it wa sthe second lowest score for the day. My highlights for the day for sure was an eagle on 10. However the 77 kinda killed my hopes of a top 10 finish. I sure learned a good lesson by playing a tourny in these kind of conditions and thats to take your time and try and keep dry. I dropped a few shots due to wet gear and rushing to get the day done.

My second event was on Wednesday and it was good one. I shot a -1 71 and finished tied for 3rd. It was another rainy day but cleared up for the last 8 holes or so. my front 9 was the best of the year so far i was -3 with 2 lip outs for birdies aswell. I ran into a little trouble on 11 and then on 16 but was able to finish in the red. i was driving the ball alot better and my irons were feeling solid for the most part. My highlight for the day was a birdie on the hardest hole on the course and it was a long par 4 with a sloping farway and a tight 2 tierd green. My next toury wont be for a few weeks but ill keep you all posted with any news and updates.

I really enjoyed playing with a new ball this week the TaylorMade TP red. It went further and spun a little less then the Pro V1 but was much more durable. I was lucky to get a box from TaylorMade to try out and I was definatly happy with the results.

The VGT is a fairly new tour that is much like the Mini tours down in the states. I will be playing in a few events on this tour and hope to get into a few very soon. Work permiting of course. The Vancouver Open will be fun to get a bunch of good golfers and make a nice local event. The PGA used to have a yearly stop at Northview in Surrey BC and it would be nice to get that event back and going again.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well its nice to get alittle help.

A nice delievery came today, a new set of cleveland 588 DSG wedges, 52/56/60... I prefer them over the zip groove wedges, i can control the spin alot easier, especially with aggressive sw,lw spots. All i need is some TaylorMade help with irons and im all set. I was lucky enough to get a free R9 and cleveland wedges so hopefully irons are next ....

I have a 2 tournys coming up next week so i will keep you all posted.

Good Luck. Look forward to your updates.

I still hope to get out to Vancouver some day. A couple of years ago I had a golf vacation set up to go play at the Olympic course (I think that's what it was called) but it fell through.

Solid week of golf 4 rounds and 3 events. The first was a 2 day event and I started well, eagle, bogey, eagle, birdie, bogey lol it was up and down all round finished with a -1 71. Second day was a solid round +2 74, my score wasnt as good but i was going things well and felt good about the outcome. Played another 1 day event and shot a E 72 and finished T3rd, winner shot -6 66 and second was -2 70. Went out with some buddies for a late round about 5:30pm tee off and had a few too many beers and stumbled thru 18 playing left handed i think lol... it was fun tho, nice to play for fun and not worrys about tournys.

I have definatly seen a solid improvement with the new driver over the last months and the TM balls have been a surprising positive IMO. Im going to take a few weeks off from tournys and work with my coach on some swing stuff and hopefully continue to improve the mechanics and work on my course management. I am usually a solid putter but after playing a few events now i realize how much work i have ahead of me in order to be top player and really make something happen. I plan on putting a strong focus and about 75% of practice time into my putting. I should be doing some video work and if i get the chance i will try and load some swing videos on here, along with a few pics.

    • I always wonder when people say they "tried" a golf swing out. I thought I had a topic on it, but when I searched DuckDuckGo for "trying" a golf swing or method limited to this site… "trying"+a+golf+swing+or+method+site:thesandtrap.com at DuckDuckGo DuckDuckGo. Privacy, Simplified. This very topic was the first search result. 🤣
    • I think you can get away with even a 5I or a hybrid or something. I don't think you need to hit 7I off the tee.
    • Yeah this is good to remember. Handicap is ranking where a high handicap player is most likely to shoot a worse score than a scratch golfer. Though you'd think a super narrow shorter hole would be relatively high handicap (as in close to #1 or #2 because a scratch golfer can hit 4i-SW and have a good look at birdie frequently whereas a high handicap is gonna be in jail or OB a ton? I guess it being short disqualifies it? I have long noticed that as a long hitting mid-handicapper I get an advantage playing in tournaments against players where I get 3-4 strokes because those are usually the par 5s that I can reach or nearly reach in 2.
    • Crunching the numbers, if you play the hole.. 100..1000 times, the best average of the hole you are going to get is with the Driver/Hybrid or playing it as a Par 5 hitting 3 wedges.  Assumptions of your game: Driver 240 yards (100 yards dispersion) Hybrid 200 (80) 6 iron 160 (60) 9 iron 120 (40) P wedge 100 (30)  Other assumptions from the hole: - When you hit it towards the threes 15% of your shots are going to bounce back to the fairway but 40 yards shorter, and 15% are going to remain in the threes but punchable out. The other 70% is going to be lost or OB so you need to Re-Tee (penalty + distance).   You are going to hit less balls OB if you hit 7 iron off the tee but you are still gong to hit balls OB! and you are going to play 100% of your 2nd shots from 150 yards where you can still can hit a couple more OB! The average score for each club (assuming you go for the green in the second shot) is: Driver: 5.4   Hybrid: 5.5 6 Iron: 5.9 9 Iron: 6.0 Given that 5.4 is the best average you can get, is not necessary to go for the green in two. So you can hit 3 shots to reach it, maybe P (100), P(100) and wedge (90) and be around bogey or double but with this strategy you are going to be almost 100% in play all the time to avoid a roller-coaster of scores in that hole. Scratch players can hit 150 off the tee with a 9 iron and keep the ball in play almost 100% of the time so they can play the hole as a par 4 and be around par in average.
    • This. Whatever your longest iron is where you won't be in the trees a high percentage of the time. If that's shorter than 7i (as in, you'll have to hit a longer iron for your approach bringing trees back into play with high probability), I agree you're better off getting closer. But again play the percentages. If your 3w or 5w dispersion is solidly narrower than your driver, hit those. But some people hit driver straighter, so whatever gives you the highest probability of not being in the trees.
