Yeah.... it's going to be very tough at the next level.... The LPGA better look out, because the more she plays with the guys the more her game will develop to that next level.... Lets not forget.... She only 16..... WOW....

it's only "negative" if you read Erik's posts
I think it's great for the game, a perfect role model for all teens. Not like she's getting (another) sponsor exemption - if her game is good enough - I wish she can win it all !

I don't mind if she qualifies, more power to her. But how come a man can't go qualify for the LPGA Open or whatever? If they say everyones equal then men should be allowed to play at women's events.

It's really nothing to gain for any PGA professional to step down and play in a LPGA event.... Picture the bold soul who decides to play in a LPGA event in the locker room at a PGA tornament... I can see Vijay now: Hey ????, how long is Paula Creamer off the tee, is Birdie Kim really good at sand saves???? By the way ????, How did you miss the cut???

Men can't qualify on the LPGA because it is written in their bylaws (have to be born female). PGA has no such rule . . .

Wow I didn't know that. I just know I've heard stories that guys have played on women's volleyball teams and they said it wasn't fair. If circumstances present themselves then it openess should go both ways.

I'm all for her

earning her way into events. That's fine. I don't like the gifts - the exemptions. I also understand them from the perspective of the tournament directors - more media, more fans, more charitable giving, etc. My main disagreement is that I think she should do more to play in events she can win. Not "try to make a cut." I don't think striving for mediocrity is a good thing. Yeah, making a cut would be "good" for her, but at the same time, how is making a cut going to make winning a tournament any easier?

PGA = Professional Golfers Assocation Tour (no gender included)

LPGA = Ladies Professional Golfers Assocation Tour That's why.

Why? Should Tiger be allowed to enter Champions Tour events? Should grown men be allowed to compete in the Special Olympics or Kids events?

Those are exaggerations to demonstrate a general rule: that women aren't as strong, fast, etc. as men and are thus at a competitive disadvantage. So no, it makes no sense that "openness" should go both ways.

I still think women should play in women's events and men should play in men's events. I think the tours are separated for a reason. Call me old school, but that's how I've always felt about it.

If she does make it all the way to the U.S. Open, at least she will earn it. I can at least live with that I guess.

That being said, she won't make it. She will bow out in the next round of qualifying.

Also, I can't believe you didn't comment on that picture Rafi. I got a little hot under the collar when I saw it. It is kinda risky if you focus on it. Yeah, I know, she is only 16! I shouldn't even be focusing.

Yeah iacacs, I agree there not the same physically so I guess when I hear arguments that women should be allowed in because there should be sexual equality I think that is not true in sports like you said.

I do agree that she should earn her way and shouldn't be given special treatment. What about the guys who work their whole life to get in but didn't cause their spot was given to Wie for an exemption? Pretty much if she earns her way in by beating all the men ok fine.

I asked my head pro the same question...in the LPGA rules it says that ONLY women are allowed on the LPGA while on the PGA tour there is no such rule for the men.

It is a ridiculous argument to say women shouldn't be allowed to play with the men if men can't play with the women. Come on! Women shouldn't play with the men because they aren't good enough, period. If a time comes when a woman IS good enough then by all means I will have no problem with her joining the ranks of the PGA Tour. Michelle Wie IS NOT good enough. She has never shown she can play in a PGA golf tournament and contend to win. She is out there to hype the media and try and make a cut, and in the meantime she is taking away spots from men who can compete and do deserve a chance. If she qualifies for the open, which she won't, then she will deserve, for the first time, to compete in a men's tournament.

IF Michelle Wei had won a women's tournament by now...MAYBE MAYBE PROBABLY NOT BUT MAYBE then I would accept her playing in men's tournaments. 1 2nd place finish does not constitute that she is good enough to play with the women...i would rather see natalie golbis play with the men b/c at least then ill see some hotness walking around on the guys tour.

    • Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.
    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
