Wondering what affect this would have and if any of you have tried it ?

I play my irons (RAC OS2) to a +1/2". Once I get past the 5 iron the clubs feel to long. I am considering trying my 4 iron the same length as my 5 iron and if that works maybe do the same to the 3 iron.

Way to simple !!

Why don't you choke up on the club?

would you have the same lie angle too? ive been wondering about this too. I have +1" clubs... and I hit the 5 iron amazingly and consistently. Past that and there a consistency drop off.

I would think there'd be no need for a 3 4 5 all the same length/lie with just different lofts. the even lengths will lessen the distance gaps. doubt youll have much reason to keep a 4 in there.

so you can keep the 5.... and the 3 will be the same but a club or so up with a longer distance and lower trajectory.... and since both are the same, i guess you'll be more consistent??

thats my stab at it

I didn't think about the lie angle. Your idea about the 3 and 5 iron makes scenes.

Maybe I will cut down a 3 iron and try it out, if it feels good I could get the lie bent. I have cut my 3 & 5 wood 1" short and I hit them better then I did before with little or no distance lose. I also cut my drive 3/4" shorter and that worked out great.

I have an old set of Ram Laser FX irons that the 3 and 4 were maybe 1/8" increments off the 5. I could hit that 3 very well. Interestingly on that set the 2 iron was quite a bit longer, I guess it was supposed to be like a driving iron. I have never even tried to hit the 2, I don't know why.

Very interesting site.

I am reading it now, the best quote from that site is...

"(proper club length is based upon your W-T-F measurement)"

I love that

I'd rather buy 2-3 hybrids than try this.

I have tools so removing a grip, changing the length, measure the swing weight, and reinstall the grip is no problem. Unfortunately I don't have a loft/lie tool.

I love to tinker with stuff so it might be fun experiment.

I purchased a 4 hybrid a couple months ago but honestly I would rather hit fairway wood or an iron, not sure why, I just can't get used to the hybrid.

Me too. That or simply grip down. I think you're gonna want that length at some point.

You never know, it could work out...

I am thinking a set that goes something like:

Same length
3i
5i
7i
9i

Normal
pw 48
52
56
60

Seems like a great Idea but there site kind of contradicts itself. example If I hit my 7 iron dead on every time, wouldn't I want the entire set built to that 7 iron spec just changing lofts, not to my W-T-F measurement.

Just a thought

Longer clubs are swung faster, too.

If your 3-PW gap is 200 to 115 yards, with a 3-PW of the same length club your gap will end up being like 160 to 125 yards or something.

"single length irons" all have the same headweight.

If you try to get your 3,4 and 5 to the same length (as lets say.. a 5 iron).. but do not add any tip weighting/head weighting, you will end up with a 3 and 4 iron that are way too stiff.

Basically.. in the "single length" or "1 Iron" sets, all the shafts are tipped to a 7 iron, since all heads weight the same as a "standard" 7 iron head. Lie angles are the same as well. You would have to hope your heads also all bend to that same lie angle.

So any updates?  I really want to do the same.  Take a 3i and swap it onto my 5i shaft.  Like you I am amazingly accurate and consistent with my cobra speedback f9s.  Especially the 5i.  And the 6i is also incredible.  BUT i need more distant and the 3 and 4 is vicious.  Lol i suck at them.  Terribly.  Maybe one out of 1 out of 15.  20 sometimes.  The range really takes your golf game into more detail.  Anyway, I'd love to hear and if you're still playing, keep on keeping on brother.  Golf is Gold.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
