Does anyone else do this (besides Phil)? I'm right handed but I putt better lefty. I think it is because of the pulling stroke (I don't change my grip). I've noticed people go lefty grip to pull the putter.

I have a very even stroke that doesn't favor one direction, so I can go back and forth between hands and not be screwed up. Just curious if this is common at all.

Edit: I've been trying to focus on right handed lately, but I always seem to go back to left. Plus, I just got a lefty TM Rossa Daytona for $10 in awesome shape off Craigslist today. Bye Bye Golfgear $10 walmart special lefty.

Wait, Phil putts right handed?

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

Phil is a righty, but golfs left. Doesn't really fit in hindsight lol. His whole game is opposite.

I do this and have never met anyone else who does. I'm naturally left-handed (throw a ball lefty, right lefty, etc), but as soon as I could walk my dad had a baseball bat in my hands and I just learned to swing righty. So when I picked up golf, it was natural to swing that way. Pretty early on in golf I was messing around with a cross-handed grip on the putter and I had a Bullseye putter that could work either way. Before you know it, messing around I started putting lefty, but with my normal righty grip. So basically I putt left with a cross-handed grip. Been that way for as long as I can remember.

Anytime I get paired up with someone I've never played with, I can guarantee within 3 holes they'll make a comment about it. Normally something really clever like, 'whoa, I could have sworn you were swining right' or 'man, you're trying to get in my head, huh?' It's funny how often you hear the same things.

I've actually played golf lefty for fun. I was about 10 yds shorter than with my normal swing. The thing is that I'd it the ball dead straight when I hit it fairly good, but when I missed it just a bit, I'd block the shot about 100 yds to my front... Go figure.

My Dad is right-handed, but plays left-handed (because the only clubs around when he was learning to play were my grandfather's lefty clubs). He does putt right-handed, though. He learned to putt with one of those old blades that could be used either way and just naturally putted righty. He is a PGA Pro and many years ago decided to play right-handed and spent a spring/summer playing that way. He got to about a 8 handicap or so, but switched back since he was scratch as a lefty anyway. He did say he thought it was a great experience and helped him become a better teacher since he went through a lot of what new golfers go through to learn. The one thing he says he's never been able to do very consistently is putt left-handed, though.

My friend is a lefty and plays right. He's pretty amby and out baseball coach when we were little had him go switch sometimes and the swing stuck. But he uses a left handed grip, always has even when swinging right.

Same here! I play lefty but started putting right handed years ago when I tried a friends odyssey putter and found that I could be more consistent from the other side of the ball.

One thing I have found is that I struggle with short chips around the green playing lefty. This could just be because my short game is poor, but I wonder if the lack of consistency hurts me...

    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
