I'm the streakiest golfer

Ever!

I realize my problem isn't hitting routine shots anymore because I practice a lot. My problem it seems his hitting shots that I can't or haven't practiced.
Here's a fun round of 90.

Par,Quad,Par,Par,Triple,Par,Triple,Birdie,Bogey... For a 46 and
Par,Bogey,Bogey,Birdie,Double,Double,Par,Bogey,Par For a 44

It seems if I end up with a shot like a severly sloping downhill lie out of the rough or fried egg lie in a bunker I'm looking at a disaster. One bad shot leads to several more. Shooting a 90 with 7 pars and 2 birdies sucks! That means I was two under with half the course and 18 over with the other half.

Anybody else have this problem?
On a side note my friend who used to beat me shot a 126! So could be worse.

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

heh, i had a round recently with a quad, a triple, and a double too. REALLY F's up your score when that happens. I still managed to break 90 (it was an 87), but it still hurts when you have 2 huge blow-up holes like that

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

You guys are amateurs... try this...

Sunday: Shot 47/44 for a 91
Monday: Shot 61 over 9 holes
Tuesday: Shot 51 playing the same course on which I shot 61 the day before
Yesterday: Shot 58 on same course on which I shot 47 on Sunday. This round included 1 quad and 2 quintuple bogeys.
Today: 50/49 for a 99

It seems if I end up with a shot like a severly sloping downhill lie out of the rough or fried egg lie in a bunker I'm looking at a disaster. One bad shot leads to several more.
I understand this completely. I get into trouble and then usually can't find my way out. For example, I'll hit a ball that catches a tree branch and then it will take me 2-3 more strokes before I'm finally back in the clear. It snowballs.

Part of it for me is a failure to keep my emotions in check. I just lose it sometimes, and that doesn't help the next shot. I think I putt poorly (averaging over 2 putts/hole) because I'm too frustrated by the time I reach the green.

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

That is pretty crazy, but it makes me feel better.

I still think my friend has you beat though, He's a member on here too but he doesn't check in very often. I've seen him get back to back birdies and shoot some pretty decent scores but 126 today! We used to try to play golf every single day in college.

The really trying thing on the front nine was that I had a par putt on that second hole in between three pars and I just got to aggressive with the putt, it rolled off a the green and in the fringe, I decided to chip up hill and caught some turf leaving it well short, flustered I putted it past the hole up hill and two putted back down.

On the fifth hole I hit a ridiculous 6 iron that was supposed to go 175 yards and it went 200 which left me a ridiculous down hill lie with a pw. I tried to hook it around trees at the green and ended up popping into the bunker for the fried egg lie, joking that I would school my friend on bunker shots I bladed it out of bounds. 'haha' 1,2, drop 3 hit 4, wedge falls short, chip 5, two putt for seven :(

7th hole was just bad shots but palmer bogeyed that hole both times he played it to so its just hard. :) Too much water, it can be found short, long, right and left, pfthh!

Hey thanks, I read your post and I was thinking what the hell is he talking about. 5,4,5,2,6,6,5,4,5 does not add up to 44 it adds up to 42. You know I felt like I did better than that on the back.

Again, good eye man. Now I have to call my friend and say I did shoot in the eighties, stupid bud lights at the turn destroy adding ability. HA! I beat my friend by 38 strokes. I just noticed that S.O.B posted his handicap at 15 *FullTroonGrind1981*

Doesn't that mean he has to give me 3 more strokes

yes, i used to have this problem a lot. and this is precisely where the mental aspect enters the game. make your mind stronger, and your game will become more consistent.

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

Think on the golf course? That would just screw me up.

^Hey you need to get together with wedgeplayer so me and Iacas can make some golf bets...

/ignore
*above edit, 1,2,3,drop 4 hit five, short lob, chip, putt* Was just thinking about how triple happened on front 9.*

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

Im pretty sure I read somewhere that most amatuer players play better than their handicap for most of the holes during a round. Then they will have 3 to 6 holes that really bring them down. So dont get too down on yourself because apparently this is the norm.

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

More practice and more concentration perhaps? I don't know...I shot 7 par holes and still carded a 100 the other day. When you find the secret, let me know.

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

Birdie Par Par Triple Par Double Par Par Double for a nice 6 over on the front. Not a single bogie, how great is that.

This is very much my game. Its really about turning those triples into bogeys and the best way I have been able to do that is to play smarter. Taking triple out of play off the tee has been key for me.

Re: I'm the streakiest golfer

This happens to everyone this weekend I shot a 73 on a par 56 then the next day a 76 on a par 71.

wow! if that was on the same course from the same tees that is quite a difference!

Im pretty streaky too..  The other day I couldn't hit a solid shot in 9 holes and didn't card a very good score.   I went back out today and played 9 and even though I scored better than the other day... I still feel like my game is off.  I feel like im playing like I was last year and I worked so hard over the winter adjusting my grip and studying swings and going to the range.  I started the spring hitting the ball great.  No more over drawing (Hooking) the ball.  I even worked out a baby fade with my driver.  But now I feel like I'm grinding out bogeys.  Pars are scarce and birdie I havent seen in 36 holes.   I don't double or triple much which keeps me in the 40's but Ive gotten to 38 a couple times and I'm ready to get down there consistantly.  My chipping is what saves me..  my putting holds me back.  and my approches that are futher than a 7 iron are suspect!  Playing in my first Invitational Amatuer tournament and I hope the good golf shows up.  so streaky! lol
