We were playing today and had to quit because of darkness. We had two holes left. Should I just forget about the round or how should I go about posting the score? What do you guys do in this situation?

I'd just post the front 9. You can use the whole 16 to critique yourself, even add your 2 average scores for 17 and 18 to have an estimate of what you shot.

My handicap provider, The Golf Association of Michigan , encouraged filling in those missing hole scores as follows:

Holes Not Played
"When a hole isn't played, your score for the hole is par, plus any handicap strokes to which you're entitled (based on your Course Handicap). And don't let a partial rainout stop you from posting a score. Use this method to fill out your scorecard when you play at least 13 holes out of 18, or at least seven out of nine. An X should be placed on the scorecard here, as well."

What do you guys do in this situation?

I follow the rules. If you play 13 or more holes, you post an 18-hole score.

Source: USGA Handicap Manual, 5-1a If 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a nine-hole score. (See Decision 5-1a/3.)

I knew the rule, I was just curious about the proper way to fill in those two holes. One of the holes we missed was the number one handicap hole...do I get a stroke there or do I just right pars down for the holes?

Source: Same As Above If 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a nine-hole score. In either case, scores for unplayed holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes. (See Section 4-2 and 5-1a .)

In this situation, let's say that his 4.8 index equated to a 6 course handicap. In that case, he'd be expected to card a par for any missed holes, except for the top 6 holes in difficulty where he'd be expected to card a bogey. Is that right?

Yes, except that handicap holes 1-6 may not necessarily mean they are the 6 most difficult.

I didn't mean the most difficult on the course, or the most difficult for him, or the most difficult that day because of the weather or green conditions, etc. I meant top 6 handicap holes - sorry to not be clear!

Alright guys. I posted my score today and gave myself a par on the number 7 handicap hole and a bogie on the number 1 handicap hole. Came out with a 77 so that's cool. At least I know for sure what to do now if I ever happen to be in this situation again.

I tend to fill in the last holes based on a average on how I am playing that day and what I think I would get.
Works for me.

It may work, but it's not correct. Following the rules, posting par is correct. For a high handicapper this could of course be an advantage if he/she would have trouble even getting par + hcp strokes. Not that it matters that much anyways, your handicap won't drop by posting net par all the time, so it's rather a missed chance to post lower scores than relief from posting high ones.

    • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
    • 43 (6 over) Couple bogies, couple Pars, a birdie and no doubles. Not bad for first 9 of the year.
    • Most the stuff I found on Instagram and just copy and mix it up. a few of my favorites: Clean>Squat>Press> March Around the body >catch >Squat> press I also hold a the kettle bell upside down with both hands on the handle. Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
    • Not sure this is the best thread but, if the rain holds off, today is my 1st round of the year.  Getting ready I can not find my Shot Scope.  I guess I put it away too well for the winter and thus that is may "Winter Depression".  I'm sure I put it somewhere that made sense at the time.
