I guess I've played several thousand rounds of golf and not once have I drank a beverage with alcohol in it. At the Country Club where I work, I clean out the carts when they come in and about 7 out of 10 have beer cans etc all over it. Theres no way I would drink like that during a round. Doesn't alcohol dull the brain? Just curious about this! It's part of my job running the Pro Shop to bring the carts out in the morning and put them away at night and I check the sand and the ice chests on the carts. I enjoy doing it and I get to play all the golf I want free and hit buckets of balls free too. I don't have to wash range balls and fool with them. Glad of that!

Golf is not a game, it's a way of life!

Alcohol and golf for me depends on the situation. If I'm out at a company outing or even with some friends for a casual round, then I've been known to have a few. If I'm in a money game (not that I condone that), or if I'm working on my game, I don't drink anything but water or Propel (lemon or black cherry).

There was actually an article I read a couple of years ago that said the 'average' golfer would be better served by having a few (1-3) drinks per round. They had people who had different levels of sobriety and ability shoot different golf shots. The gist of the article was that the few drinks helps eliminate pointless swing thoughts and intimidation about carrying water, etc...and allowed the people to play better.

Obviously it is different, for people of higher skill levels because they are and have to be more precise.

Now as for me, most of the time I have one or two cans of the swing oil, but I have brought a Michelob 18 pack out on the course and had a beer a hole. Like rangontona said, it is all about the situation.

There is a science to maintaining the correct fluid levels. One step to far, and I'm worthless for a hole or two. I find that in "fun" events, like member-guest or captain's choice scrambles that the fluid level tends to be higher than in a match. In matches, a couple beers. In scrambles, bloody mary's, beers, and anything you wanna throw at me. In a tourney, MAYBE a beer at the turn, just to was the chili dog down.

Anyone know why my cholesterol is so high?

I never drink on the course mainly because I never take cart (unless the course requires cart useage)... when I walk the thought of alcohol would dehyrdrate me so quickly and deplete my energy level rather quickly...

never. for once - dehydration problem, second issue - I don't need more than 2 beers to feel alcohol effects. I guess I'm too serious about the game to do it.

I have noticed that at my golf course there are social golfers, who almost all drink (usually beer), and serious golfers (often competive) who drink little or none. I have been known to have one if I am riding and often after at outings. I am with the others if you walk I need water not antifreeze.

But as for myself, I think I can count on one hand how many bevvies I have had on a golf course. Like Rafi I take the game sometimes too seriously when I play

I don't even drink

caffeine on the golf course because I think it has an effect on my play.

I have started to take this more seriously the better I get. I used to drink three or four beers each side. If it was an outing, I would suck the beers and bloody mary's back like water. Cigars too. One per side.

Now, however, I really limit myself, because it does effect the way I play.

When I was shooting in the 100's I needed a little lubrication to overcome my insecurities about my game. After a few drinks, I actually played better.

Now I am shooting in the 80's. I don't know if it's the heat, or what, but one or two beers and I am finished out there. My timing gets off and no matter how many bottles of water I drink, I can't get it back. So, no drinks for me on the track. Now my game is more important than the socializing. Imagine that.

However, the 19th hole is a different story. After a hot 18, an ice cold beer is welcomed relief.

It really depends on the outing for me. 98% of the time would be no alcohol on the course. The other 2% would be two outings I have per year that would involve a few cocktails on the course. College was a different story . . .

I usually only drink water out on the course...maybe a Powerade. I don't usually want to inject myself with a bunch of caffeine, sugar or alchohol during play...

Rafi - I have some Red Bull ready for you this year.

no way! This time I'll be coming from Myrtle, which is only about 4 1/2 hr drive - I won't overdose and blow first two rounds due to shaking hands and heart pounding. I'm coming ready this time

Does your wife realize just how much you are addicted and how much golf you play? How much vacation do you get? I'm just wondering how you get to spend it

away from your family. Teach me master.
which is only about 4 1/2 hr drive

Yeah...you can make it in less than 4 if you take the alternate route through the Pinehurst area. If you need directions, let me know. It is 4 lanes most of the way and an easy drive.

I quit drinking about 10 years ago. Just lost the taste for the stuff overnight. I have one mixed drink a year probably and never on the golf course. I never did like beer to start with so it never seemed appealing anyway.

I used to play with a guy that could drink a beer every other hole and got better all the way around. I would have been passed out in the basket on the cart before we finished the front nine...

Can't. You already messed it up - first condition is NO KIDS. Second - wife has to be an addict too (she dropped from 36hcp to 26hcp in 2 years

). Last year I didn't take any long vacations, just a day or two here and there. I had 22 vacation days coming into this year. Once the scotland trip is over I've 5 more days left - 3 of them going towards the Newport Cup, that leaves me with 2 days total for the rest of the year... Bad, bad thing. I might have to quit my job to boost it up I'm not that bad - I've only about 70 rounds this year....

I've GPS, so I should be fine. Even better idea - why don't you drive down to my townhouse tuesday night and play wed / thu with us? Then I can just follow you
