I wasn't sure which topic to put this under. Sorry if anyone thinks this is the wrong place. I am sitting here watching the Windham Championship. Earlier, while Ryan Moore was hitting a shot, his stance was aimed way left of the green, yet the commentator was calling this an open stance. Is this correct? I always assumed an open stance, similar to an open club face, is aimed right of ones target, and anything left of the target is considered closed.

Yeah he's right, that's an open stance. Funny I'd never thought of it like you did but I see how you got there.

So then open stance is opposite of open clubface, and same with closed then.

Yeah if that helps you remember it, but like the other poster said "closed/open stance" is in relation to your target line, its not just a needlessly confusing term.

If you watch baseball note how the batter stands when you are looking at him with the camera behind the pitcher. Those hitters where you can see their back as they wait for a pitch... that's a closed stance. If you can see their front... that's an open stance. Larry Walker is a good example of someone that swung with a very open stance. I haven't watched baseball since they killed my Expos so I can't comment on today's players. :(

Like he said, I never thought about that either but I can see how that would confuse some.
