I'll be calling my local shop tomorrow for specifics, right now I'm just trying to get a general figure in my head. What would you all expect to pay to have seven clubs (4-PW) re-gripped with Golf Pride NDMC and a wrap or two of tape? I've never had it done so I honestly have no clue.

Brace yourself for this one......that is a pricey grip....but a darn good one.

I'd expect to pay whatever they charge for the grip + $2-$3 labor per club.

I'd guess somewhere around $75 including tax.

Sounds like a lot but that really is one of the premier grips available today.

I had them on my last irons and was highly satisfied.

I've never re-gripped myself and am not looking to experiment on my gamers. I don't mind paying a shop to do it a time or two until I can learn. I was honestly expecting something closer to $14-15 per club, so this is actually good news ;).

Newb here, but maybe I'm missing something. If the $2-3 apiece labor is correct, then a set of seven clubs is $15-20 for labor plus the price of the grips. Why would I even bother doing it myself for $2-3? Is that an accurate estimate? What's the advantage to doing it at home?

The $15-20 a year you save on labor.

$2-3 per club is accurate... maybe $4 on the high end. My old shop did them for free in late winter as an incentive to buy new grips from them.

The reason people would do it themselves... most people carry 14 clubs and some people may even change in and out a few... so 14-16 clubs @$3 per club is $40-50 minus the $5 you might spend on some tape and solvent... plus some people enjoy tinkering with clubs and it gives them something related to golf to do in the dead of winter.

I'll try it on a spare club at some point, but not on my gamers a few days before I hope to use them. I definitely want to learn how, so I can re-grip for myself and my buddies that play.

its not rocket science here bud. seriously it takes 8 min tops to regrip a club. If you cant figure out how to regrip a club after reading up on the internet how to do it, then you have downsyndrome.

I just had the PGA Tour Superstore in my area re-grip 8 clubs for me at $1 labor + the price of the grip (in this case $2.99 for the Lamkin Crosslines).

I had Golf Galaxy do 13 clubs (different ones) for me, as they also told me they charged $1 per club for labor and I also had a $30 off coupon from my rewards account. However, I was in a hurry when I picked them up and didn't realize until I left that they had charged me about $3/club in labor (yes, I should have realized the total was higher than I expected, but like I said I was in a hurry). I'm going to call them when I get back in town this week and see if they will refund the money, but it's not that big of deal in the long run if they don't.

In any event, PGA Tour Superstore did a great job, and they both had them done the next day, so I don't see a reason I won't go back to have any re-gripping done at the PGA store.

That being said, I want to learn to do it myself, but I have another couple clubs I can practice on that I don't use right now, so it wouldn't be a big deal if I managed to screw them up on my first try.

Since you don't have a PGA store in the Albuquerque area, I think the $2-$3/per club for labor is a reasonable expectation.

Bignasty is right. Its super easy. You cant really ufck it up. I dont really see how if you were semi careful. Some people enjoy working on their stuff - customizing it etc.. Some people would rather have others do it. I LOVE regripping. Except peeling off the tape. Ugh. You dont need tape!

I don't doubt that it's simple. As I've said a couple of times now, I fully plan on trying it out for myself at some point.

I was just asking for a ballpark price and I've got it, thanks for the commentary.

I took the beginners clubmaking course at a local Golfsmith. I paid $15 and took the club home with me when I was done.

I agree that time is indeed money, but gripping is just dirt simple, as is assembling any club for that matter.

I don't know that assembly is necessarily dirt simple... the non-metalic head materials in some woods and drivers, as well as proper shaft trimming and spining a club all take some know-how. Yes, putting a wedge togather is pretty easy... but it doesn't even compare to how easy throwing on a grip is.

To answer the OP's question, I had all of mine regripped with the New Decade Multi-Compounds a little while back. I believe they were $8 per grip, and $2 per club labor, so basically $10 per club. It wasnt cheap, but I'd do it again without a doubt.

I realize everyone wants to save money and do them on their own, and that's cool, each person has their own situation going on, but I try to put as much money (within reason, of course) into my local shop as possible. I know business is down for them a little bit, so to me, giving them that extra $2 or $3 per club is worth it, IMO. Especially if others do the same, and it keeps them going for a while.

Of course, I dont mean paying outrageous prices on clubs, but if they can do a service that's quicker and easier for them to do than it is for me, by all means, let them do it! Or if they're selling a new club for maybe $10 or $15 more than TGW, I'll buy from someone local. Like I said, anything within reason...

Youtube + ebay = serious cost savings and the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

I do not have a vice clamp or one of the fancy knives to remove them.....simply a basic box cutter. I've always used charoal lighter fluid to dowse over the old tape and it will peel / wipe off with relative ease. It does well over the new tape and inside the new grip.

I always liked to let the sticks dry for a couple of days, too.

An hour and a half is a fair estimate to how long it took me to remove old grips and install new ones....most of that time being spent on getting the old grips cut off and cleaned up. You have to be careful not to stretch the new grip too far down the shaft and wind up with varying thickness grips.

It's a labor of love. You'll be proud of doing it yourself.

All that being said the last 20 grips or so that I've had done......were done in a shop. It wasn't worth dragging out a bunch of stuff and doing it. I'm out of two sided grip tape, anyway. It was wonderful dropping them off and picking them up again already done....just hurt a little in the wallet.

It's all relative, and I'm talking about simple assembly of components, not more advanced adjustments or club fitting for that matter.

It's a personal decision and it matters if you're "handy with tools", compared to my other hobby, building and flying expensive toy sailplanes, gluing a shaft into head, cutting and gripping is indeed dirt simple, for me anyway. YMMV.....

I called the shop this morning and they do the Multi Compounds for $8 installed, so I really wouldn't be saving anything by doing it myself. Maybe $.50/club or so depending on where I got the grips.
