Ummmmm.... did they not think that the giants would have any rushers, and did they forget that their O-LINEMEN were running out for a pass??

DUH!!

At least they made the tackle.

The trick was that it didn't work. So, does that mean it worked?

In the messed up world of the NFL bottom-feeders, that might be the mindset.

I love Mike Tirico- after the pass is thrown- "what in the wide world was that!?", "This is embarrassing" Then Jon Gruden- "I've never seen that before, I hope I never see it again." I just don't get it, did they not want the 3 points?, most of the linemen didn't even run.

On a completely unrelated note, here's Charles Barkley calling himself a dumbass.

Go to about 50 seconds.

And remember, he's hosting SNL Jan 9th.

Jim Zorn must have been on the pipe to allow that play to be run; I guess he knows he is a sitting duck so doesn't care.

I don't think the stupid part was running the play. The stupid part was running the play after the Giants called a timeout to defend it. The purpose of a trick play is to surprise the other team. If you don't have the element of surprise on your side, it will never work. After the timeout they should have just kicked.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I don't know, the Giants might not have been expecting them to run it the second time. I think running a trick play wasn't a bad idea, but the execution was terrible, and really, what were the O-LINEMEN going to do?

I've seen this before with similar results. don't know what possesses some coaches to keep trying it. If they wanted to gamble at that point already down by a lot, why not keep the offense on the field? surely the offense has a better chance at scoring than that sickly play does.

The swinging gate play works well in high school, occasionally works in college, and never works in the pros. Kind of like the triple option - the more disciplined your defense, the less it works.
