I am thinking that this year I'd like to update my Putter, and I am thinking that I'd really like the look and feel of a good forged blade. I am looking at a couple of the YES products, they roll so well! I have 2 parts to my question:

1. Those who have used, have or have tried the YES putters, how do they compare to other "high end" putters, and how what general information can you give after playing with one?

2. What other putters would others recommend? I know it's a general question and could solicit a lot of responses, but I am looking for a High end Forged blade. i like the circle milling on the face of the YES, so perhaps something with a similar feel. i am not as big a fan of the flat "scottie" style. I have always had something on the face (insert) and not sure how i'd like the standard no frills face... Thoughts?

The last part is that YES is in Colorado and I know you can go to their facility and have one fit at their facility and then they make it with those specs, not modify one to those specs, does any body thing this would be an advantage? I know it would be fun! Thanks for the comments!

Rife putters have a similar technology -- called RollGroove -- on the faces of their blades to make the ball roll better, very similar to Yes putters. The main difference is that RollGroove is on the entire putter face and not just the middle of it. Unfortunately, I don't believe they make any forged blades, but I'd give them a try.

Also, Nike Method putters have a multi-material face that is supposed to improve ball roll. Again though, I believe they are all milled.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't limit myself to a forged putter, they are few and far between. I had a Yes! marilyn about 18 months ago, it was a nice putter, beautiful carbon finish and nicely weighted. Unfortunately I got this when I was going through a very poor putting spell so it was traded in along with a couple of others. I would certainly consider another one though. Give the Rife a go and the new Nike method putters too, there is a short video of the nike method putter on the nike website which is quite interesting.

had a YES before the Scotty
only reason i bought it, is because it was on sale cheap

Really...didnt like it
didnt like the way it sounded, or was weighted...felt REALLY heavy..I had the Tracy

my SC compared, is night and day
not that SC's are for everyone

I think that a putter is such a personal preference, its hard to say what will work for me, will work for you

personally, I didnt like the YES brand at all

James Black is correct in that there is a wide range within their product line.

I played a mallet, the Olivia, for a few months but fell into a groove with my current putter and don't see ever changing.

The Olivia put a very nice roll on the ball and aligned with supreme ease. It came with an interchangeable weight kit that was well made and easy to dial in to your preference.

I disliked the factory grip as I don't care for the spoungy "Winn" putter grips.

Forged? I have no idea who is making forged putters.

Check the putter forums over on golfwrx.com and you'll see some sweet Machine, Byron and other custom places those guys rave about. Some of these may be forged.

Good luck.

I have a YES! Tracy II in my bag and have played it for about 2 years i think....absolutely love it, it knocked my SC out of the bag.
I like a heavier feeling putter so they work out well for me, and by all means get fitted for it if you can. I bought mine off the rack and had it modified to fit me for a big improvement(bent 2* up and took 1* off of loft and shortened the shaft to 33.5")

  • 2 weeks later...
I picked up a new Yes! Marilyn on ebay for $60 & after trying it out last night I think the Red X is gonna take a break for a while. Definitely heavier but it strokes smooth and the ball rolls off the fast nicely without a jump.

Yep I ended up purchasing a used yes, one of the original ones they made I think... I also made a trip to the Yes Factory here in denver, and got "fitted" amazing experience... they put a weight in the shaft that makes controlling the distance very easy for me. If you ever make a trip to Colorado and have a YES, or want one, make a trip there... Fitting with the weight and a new grip was $30. Great Value!
