Quick question.....does anyone know if in the "Rules of Golf" it is permissible to carry a training aid in your bag if it is not capable of hitting a ball? I just ordered the Swingnature ( www.swingnature.com ) and I think it would be good to use in-between holes (especially in the early stages of a round where you are still loosening up).

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe it is OK to have these types of things in your bag, but you cannot actually use them during a round. You will see many Pro's with the alignment sticks in their bags, but they can't be used during play.

14-3/10 Use of Training or Swing Aid During Round

Q. During a round, may a player make a stroke or a practice swing using a club with a weighted headcover or "donut" on it, or use any other device designed as a training or swing aid?

A. No. The player would be using an artificial device to assist him in his play in breach of Rule 14-3, but see also Decision 4-4a/7 for use of a weighted training club. (Revised)

You may have them in your bag, but you may not take them out and use them.

The alignment sticks don't weigh much and make a handy spot to keep your headcover when it's off the club.

Then he'd need somewhere to put it, people might take it etc. They might be using it right before tee time. As long as they don't pull it out of the bag and actually use it, it doesn't matter.

Does a speed stick or warm up club that cannot hit a ball count as one of the 14 clubs you can carry?

If it meets the definition of a club it can. Most don’t.

I may be wrong here, but if it does meet the definition of a club, aren't you allowed to declare it out of play before you start. Then as long as you don't try to use it you are okay? Or do I have that wrong?

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Sure, but if it’s before the round just leave it behind. Carrying it around is dumb.

    • Thanks. I hope I do but I think I'm going to get stuck at 98 as two of the remainder tracks are notoriously difficult get on.   I have Turnberry, Troon, Skibo Castle, Ardfin and Crail Craighead left. I have a round at Turnberry booked in for later this year. Troon is accessible but the green fee is extortionate (compared to what we are used to) so I may go for that in 2027. Crail Craighead is easy enough through member guest sign on's so won't be an issue.  Skibo Castle is a private, exclusive members club who do not allow guests at all full stop. You have to know a member, who are very rare and secretive (often celebrities, like Harry Styles or other worldwide business types for example, who are supposedly members). So it is basically impossible and I am likely to be stuck with this one. Ardfin whilst bookable for the average joe - is bordering on extortion and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to afford it. You have to stay over at their 'hotel' and you have to book it out for X amount of people for at least two days and it costs upwards of 15-20k. Even if you divide that by say 12 players it's still far too much money unfortunately. With a bit of luck at somepoint in the future they may introduce a day rate, they had one a few years ago for 500 (GBP).  Fingers crossed however. I managed to get on the exclusive Loch Lomond easier than I thought it would be!
    • Due to kidney issues I drink a lot of water. Usually about 100+ oz a day. As you all know, water is boring. So on days I am at the gym or playing golf I try adding electrolyte powder to the water. Unfortunately I just buy what I can find at the store. Either Propel or Liquid IV. Both are sugar free and only have 500MG of sodium. Any one else find a decent electrolyte powder they can recommend? Thanks for any assistance.
