Static Fit
-5' 9" tall
-Wrist to floor 34.75"
-6 iron swing speed 93 mph

Club tested Mizuno MX300

Recommendations:

Length -1/4"
Lie 1 degree upright
Shaft Optimizer recommendations
-KBS Tour X Flex 130 gram
-True Temper X-100 130 gram
-Rifle 6.5

Grip: Midsize grip....1/32 oversize from what I can remember...any recommendations on style???

Also putted with the Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 in 34" which felt great and I'm going to pull the trigger on to get away from my Odyssey 2 ball putter.

Irons I'm leaning toward the KBS shaft or True temper which also felt great...your thoughts???...hit these on the simulator there...both felt good...the KBS is 11dollar upcharge per club

Going to go with 4-PW...didnt hit any hybrids but was considering the CLK Mizuno 20 degree 3 hybrid...still up in the air...very excited about placing the order for my new irons and putter.

Thanks for the replies,

Kurt

I'm a big fan of their M-21 style grips. I can't remember the name of the non-logo'd equivalent from Golf Pride. Although if I get them again, or re-gripped, I will probably have them put on with the logo on the other side, for at least one club.

Are the KBS shafts that much better than the X100 True Temper? Same weight in Grams...the golf place told me that the KBS are just more precise and consistent shaft to shaft....any thoughts?....worth the 11 dollar upcharge per club?

Golf Pride Tour Velvet are very close to the stock Mizuno M-21. They come in mid-size.

Good for you man!! I went through the Mizuno fitting and had a very good experience. I'd recommend it to anyone. I also purchased the MX 300's, 5-PW. Unfortunately, I can't hit them though. My handicap is much to high. I just can't hit them pure consistently. I'll be posting them for sale here, (As soon as my account lets me.) If you know anyone - $400. They have just two rounds on them.

Good luck with them man! I just know they'll treat you right.

How do you hit those 200s? What shaft and grip did you go with...did you get fitted?

How do the MX300s feel? I am currently playing Titleist 695MB and have been for a couple of years. I am looking for something a little more forgiving, but I'm nervous about making the switch.

Titleist 917D3 - Fujikura 74 > Titleist 917F2 - Diamana 80 > Mizuno MP Fli Hi 3iron > Mizuno MX300 4-6 iron > MP58 7-PW > Titleist SM6 - 52, 56, 60 > Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Newport Mid Slant > TaylorMade TP5x

the feel of these is great just as all the forged Mizunos do. The 8-PW are solid muscleback and the 7 iron and up are cavity back for added forgiveness and high launch. Being a 1.4 handicap such as yourself...i would suggest you look into the MP series...the MP58s are the most beautiful irons I've ever seen...too tough to hit for a 15 handicap like me though
where in TN you located? Maryville is my home of record in the military, thats where my parents and in-laws still live

Actually in Murfreesboro right now, but I am graduating in May so I'm not sure how much longer I will be here. I played the Mizuno MP32s and occasionally MP14s before I made the switch to Titleist sticks. I'm just looking for something more forgiving around my 2, 3, 4, and 5 irons. I am getting tired of having to hit near-perfect shots with these and if a lot of the pros are switching to mixed/combo sets, then I probably should also. I've thought about sticking some AP1s in my bag for the longer irons, but I haven't actually hit them yet. I had surgery Friday so I have been out of the mix for a few days now, but I'll be testing some new irons soon.

Titleist 917D3 - Fujikura 74 > Titleist 917F2 - Diamana 80 > Mizuno MP Fli Hi 3iron > Mizuno MX300 4-6 iron > MP58 7-PW > Titleist SM6 - 52, 56, 60 > Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Newport Mid Slant > TaylorMade TP5x

That's a great price!! I think I paid $600 for mine. Mine are 5-PW, 2* upright, 1/2" long, medium golf pride/mizuno grips.

Let me know if he's interested. They're just sitting around collecting dust. (Unfortunately)

I did get fitted. I tried the MX-300s, yet they were not forgiving enough for me. As for how I hit them...... Let's just say much better, straighter, higher than my outdated, 11 years old, shorter, stiff shafted TM Supersteels. I hit some at the range, yet most of the balls hit were using my wrist only. That's my lessons. According to the shaft monitor(if that's what it's called), the shaft never bent at contact. I descelled. That's why I am taking lessons. I grip the club too hard and my wrists are not releasing through at impact. SO, my shafts are True Temper Steel GS95s, R300. The lightest available. But after lessons, I should be able to get good height and distance. It showed during my lessons. My grips are the Mizuno Tour Velvet -1. I am hoping to get out for a practice round this Sat morning, weather permitting here in NYC. But the place I will be going is packed, usually 5+ hours for 18. All I want is practice. BUT, the next weekend, I have my annual weekend outing upstate. Sat is fun only, best ball scramble. And everyone's drinking. But the next day will be a true test of my Mizzies, because we find a nice course and play for real. So I will update you on my results. Even after this weekend. I will also update my other thread on my fitting. Anyway, enjoy your 300s and welcome, as I was welcomed, to the great Mizuno owners group. I sure am proud now. I also now can't wait until UPS delivers my new, beautiful, white Mizuno Omega V cart bag.

Also putted with the Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 in 34" which felt great and I'm going to pull the trigger on to get away from my Odyssey 2 ball putter.

Well done

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
