I picked up a set of steel wilson staff di-7's and man I can't hit those at all. I had a old set of graphite shaft bag in box irons that I was using and those where better for me. My query is is it the shaft that I have to get use to or what. I am looking and seriously considering a set of cobra s2 max or maybe a set of transition-s. Any help? I know Callaway has a set similiar to the transition-s so I just don't know. Any other suggestions would be great.

Adams A7 OS or OS max are some nice clubs. A friend of mine started gaming the A7 OS's a few weeks ago and has been playing much better with them. Or you will get a lot of take lessons from some people. There are many good GI clubs out there. Just go hit a few different clubs and see what you like.

I would go with something from the Callaway, either the X series or Big Bertha irons. Really forgiving and kind of a light feel. The most forgiving iron out there is probably the Ping G-15, but you will have to really spend major cash to get those. BTW I've seen those Adams A7 sets around as well, never tried them but I'm sure their really forgiving as well.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Yeah the whole lesson thing doesn't even make sense to me. I play for fun I am not going to make the open and know it. I have seen the Adams as well and have considered those to. I have a cobra driver and man do I LOVE it so that is why those are probably going to be the short list. I know the bag doesn't have to mach but if one works so well why stray.

Di7s are incredibly delofted, they have a 42° PW. For that reason alone, they are not easy to hit. The problem is, you're hitting two clubs stronger than you think you are.

I would second Callaway. They are by far the easiest to hit irons out there, and are good enough for use by better players as well. The older Big Bertha models are wonderful. In fact, the only problem I have with them is offset (all my clubs have absolutely no offset).

Callaway has completely abandoned the Big Bertha line for 2010; The now have the Diablo Edge line, advertised to be easier to hit (read longer and straighter) than last years Diablos, as well as old BB or Fusions. They seem to be competitively priced as well. There is a great write-up on the Diablo Edge irons from "The Hackers Paradise" under equipment. I'd post the actual link but the system doesn't appreciate me yet...

There are some great deals out there right now on irons so I'd suggest getting a set of R7s, X-18rs or X-20s and then spending some money on a couple of lessons vs. getting G15s for a lot more money.

I just took a couple of lessons and two big areas of my game are now much improved. Can't wait to play this weekend. I have the X-20s and for me they work. Maybe not perfect, but when my swing is better, it's funny, my clubs become better, too!

Well, yeah... That's kind of how it works. When I was a 30 something handicap, a persimmon 5 wood seemed almost impossible to hit. Blades seemed like some sort of horrible torture devices. Today, nothing of the sort. So long as you hit a club in the center of the face, at the right angle, it seems easy to hit. Miss it, and it's a different story. The object is to get something that forgives misses, and that would be the Callaway and Adams clubs in my book.

pretty much any of the G line from ping.. those things are like hitting shovels. If you cant make contact to the ball with one of those things, quit golf. jk, dont quit if you cant lol

I used to own some horrible no name irons when i first started and they were tinny and hard to hit. I never thought much of it ( thought it was me ) and recently I got some Nike Slingshots, and wow, what a difference, since owning them I have hit some x20s etc, but for me, with a high handicap, Slingshots are amazing.

I lose a couple yards though because the ball flight is higher than others, but they are easy to hit

But I agree that Adams make some great forgiving clubs, and if I didn't have the Slingshots, Adams would be my next choice.

Adams A7 OS or Nike Slingshots in my opinion. Slingshots have done wonders for me. Nice wide soles really help, and they get the ball up so well, weather you hit it on the toe or center of the face.

I just picked up a set of the P2 irons from GigaGolf out of curiosity and have been VERY pleasantly surprised. Every bit as good as the set of Ping G10s I had last year, for less than $150 new.

I spent some time on there site. The P2 must be gone now. They look great though and have some real nice clubs. I went there looking for irons but bought a wedge for starters. Thanks

EXACTLY!!

"Mint" (I'm betting they are brand new) Raptures for <450 shipped to my house! Look good if you don't mind the "G" series frame, as they are almost identical(except Raptures have titanium face and have a green emblem). I like the looks of the Raptures, and they can be had pretty dam cheap.....cheaper than G15's, and they still have square grooves(which us hackers want IMO), while the G15 are now "conforming"(like that matters to >90% of us here).
