Tiger Woods won his fifth straight tournament on Monday, but Garcia is hoping he'll cool off for the Sept. 22-24 matches. "Fortunately for us he doesn't have a great Ryder Cup record," Garcia said. "So I'm looking forward to hopefully going out there and meeting him two or three times."

Is this guy drain dead? He may have just done the US a HUGE favor.

You mean "

b rain dead?" Anyway, I think this is pretty funny: "So I'm looking forward to hopefully going out there and meeting him two or three times." Key word "hopefully." I don't think even Sergio believes what Sergio said.

I love it, even though Tiger will never admit it because he's always too careful to be so PC he will stew over that and just kick Sergio's ass. Same with Vijay, you don't think Tiger was ready to beat him down last Monday? Sergio, see Stephen Ames...learn from the past, don't piss off Tiger. This is going to be fun to watch.

Sergio seems to keep getting that foot stuck in his mouth. I mean just when you think you can start liking the guy after he makes the Michelobe commercials he pops off at the PGA about how "Tiger gets all the breaks" or at Bethpage Black when he was.."whaaaaaa...Tiger gets to start when its's not raining"...or when he takes his 15th waggel on a short wedge shot...well....you get my drift....

Good Luck Sergio....you'll need at least nine other euros to beat one Tiger....

was it Ben Hogan that said....."the luckier I am, the better I get"?

It was Arnold Palmer, and he said, "The more I practice, the luckier I get."

Sergio really needs a helmet... I can see the incoming rounds already. If the Euro RC captain doesn't give Tiger another opponent now, he can count on Tiger wiping the floor up with Sergio. Maybe that was Sergio's strategy... thinking if he dissed Tiger then Woosnam wouldn't put him up against Tiger for fear of the results...

priceless

I'd not give him so much credit for planning it like that though. I think he's just a dope.

I'd like to see it. Sergio probably couldn't beat Tiger in Sunday singles, but Tiger wouldn't "9 & 8" him either. Sergio is a different guy in the Ryder Cup. He can actually make pressure putts for some reason.

I would still bet on Sergio and his partner against Tiger and his partner in foursome or fourball play...if I had any money that is.

I hope you're wrong about this. I am cynical when it comes to Tiger and the Ryder Cup. One can only hope that his mindset will change this year. Trouble is I wouldn't bet against Sergio in a foursome or fourball match either. Shades of Seve past...as Jim Fuyruk and Peter Jacobsen shudder.... also Thrasher why do I always get kicked out of my login when I post?

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
