Hi Guys.

Been out of the game for 4 years but got back into it for the last month. I have always been good of the tee and strike the ball cleanly. Didnt play any rounds lat week because i wanted to put some time aside to practice putting which has always been the weakest part of my game.

Anyways played tonight and my putting has come along alot however, i thinned every single tee shot (yes, every one!!) and not just a little thin i mean putting a smile in the centre of the ball and it was racing off at chest height like a rocket. I tried everything to sort it and not one shot worked! This has never happened to me before and now i cant stop thinking about it and wanted to know if there is any advice on how to get over it?? Maybe i just forget it and sees what happens next time?

Cheers

In my experience, I thin shots when I don't keep my spine angle. You may be peeking a little early in the swing and "standing up" at impact. Even though you want to hit up on a driver, you still have to keep your body down.

Without a video one can't be 100% sure, but I would wager on that you don't get the weight forward enough, which cause the bottom of your swing to be behind the ball.

Without seeing it I would guess 1 of three things.

1) Standing up/leaning back instead of rotating through the shot
2) Ball tee'd too low
3) Ball too far forward in your set up

The ball should be off the inside of the front foot to a couple ball lenghts off the inside of the front foot. Create a cross with your clubs at the driving range and see if your set up is off.

Standing up, is primarily caused by having your hips come towards the ball during the downsing. If you notice this in a mirror or video try to feel like your left hip rotates away from the ball in the downswing instead of sliding towards the ball.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
