52 on the front, 39 on the back.

On the front I might be able to point to one OK shot, if I give myself too much credit. I just plain could not hit the ball to save my life. Everything was FAT, FAT, FAT.

Make the turn with no break, just went from green to tee. Perfect drive, right down broadway with a little draw. 2nd shot GW stuck 4' past the pin. The whole back 9 went basically that way. 2nd hole was my longest drive of the day again nice and straight LW over a bunker to 5'.

I have no idea what happened from the 9th green to the 10th tee, but I'm glad it did. And there is nothing like draining a 21' putt for birdie on 18.

Mine usually go in the opposite direction. My last round was a two over 37 on the front with two birdies in a row (three total) followed by a 48 on the back.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I'm with bwdial, its always worse for me on the back 9. Especially in the heat lately as my ability to stay hydrated goes downhill 10 or 11 holes into the round.

totally understand... happened to me last week, went out in a very uncharacteristic 46, and come home in 34 :p

if you play enough, you'll see the reverse from time to time, but I can't remember the last time it happened.

Cheers, Allan

I've done something similar to that before (52-38) and I never could figure out why I played so well on the back. All I did was grab a hotdog and a Mountain Dew at the turn. I usually do play better on the back, but it's never that dramatic of a difference. It is fun salvaging a bad round with a back nine in the thirties though.

The 39 on the back ties my best round. But it could potentially have been under par (36). I had a chip from 35 yards hit the stick, which was leaning towards me and I forgot to put it into the cup correctly (this is a common occurrence on my course). I flubbed a sand shot across a green, then chipped back to 6 inches. Hit one OB so theres a penalty stroke, and last but not least, I pulled my 9i on a par three 20 yards left of the green, something I rarely ever do.

My chipping (excluding the sand shot) was really on, and I never more than 2-putted. Still, my favorite shot of the day was the 21' putt for birdie at the last. Putting has always been my weak point so I was ecstatic with it all day!

It is the caffeine in the Dew. I usually take a can of coke to the course and drink it at the turn to keep me up for the back 9 and I always play better in the back.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I played a local par 62 executive course that's pretty tough, both me and my +1 handicap friend agree it's harder than the local muni. He shot even and I shot +15 with a 42 front and a 35 back. I had multiple chunks on the front, blew putts five feet past the hole, and just wasn't making good contact with the ball. On the back I shot 4 over on the first par 3 and first two par 4s and then went on to have six straight pars, with a few lip out birdies.

But I'd prefer to walk off the course with the 35 instead of the 42 in mind, get's you pumped for the next round!
