Mizuno MX-300

Although I won't be in a position to buy some new irons for a few months yet, I've really been eyeballing a set of Titleist AP1s. Today I tried some out and for comparison (manager's suggestion) also tried the Mizuno MX-300. I have to say, I was mightily impressed with MX-300 and would say these have replaced the AP1s at the top of my short list.

What's your opinion on these irons?

I don't have any direct experience with those clubs, but every Mizuno iron I've hit has been awesome, hence my sig. It will take a really sweet feeling iron to knock my MP-57s out of the bag and I'll be surprised if the set that does that isn't another set of Mizunos.

When I bought my current clubs 3 years ago (adams A3OS) I was a newbie and tried some Mizunos and didn't like the feel of them. Probably due to poor mechanics more than anything. I couldn't believe how buttery smooth those forged irons felt today. I could also immediately tell where on the face I hit the ball. In addition, having really only ever played the A3OS I've had a hard time understanding why the look of a club makes a difference, but I've recently hit some of my friends irons, and I'm starting to see the appeal of a thinner club with less offset.

I am so ready for some new irons, I just need to find the funds

That is what I love about my Mizunos. I can tell when I mishit it and can tell about where on the face I missed. But, when I pure one, I just love the feel. Some people think it is too soft feeling, but I think it feels like catching a baseball right in the sweet spot on a bat. It just feels great.

Yea if I were you I would go with what feels comfortable, and in your case it is the MX-300's. I went to hit both AP1 and AP2 from Titleist and thought I would get a split set of them, AP1 3-5, AP2 6-P and after hitting them I was kinda disappointed after having such high expectations of them. I hit a few Mizuno irons and loved the feel and of course tried others, that being the irons in my sig; less than the cost of the Mizuno set I wanted but very similar feel *to ME*..

Go with your instinct and don't look back.

MX-300s are sweet. I demo hit a set of these back in March and loved them. If you are going to buy a set of them, youd better do so soon because Mizuno isnt going to be offering them much longer.

Perhaps you're already aware of this, but there is also the MX-200. They are also forged, are $100 cheaper (at the retail level), and have a slightly bigger clubface.

Perhaps worth the time to hit those as well. You might like them more or they might reinforce that the 300s are best for you.

The nice thing about Mizuno prices, though, is that they don't fall sharply, leading to a rush to get this year's set before next year's is on sale instead. It's one of the issues I'm having with the Nike irons I'm looking at: if I rush, I might get a mis-fit overall. If I don't rush, next year's may cost me a few hundred dollars more.

Definetly worth demoing. If he is looking at AP1s my bet is that he wont like the 200s. They are a little too GI. I thought the 200s were the cat's meow until I hit the 300s.

I played a few holes with a friend's Mx300s on the weekend. They feel super sweet but I lost about 10 yards distance per club compared to my Titlesit 695s. This might be just me taking time to get the feel for the clubs but they sure felt significantly shorter than my Titleists.
Can anyone verify if they experienced any loss in length playing the Mx300s or is it just me getting used to these irons.
Seriously considering buying these based simply on feel alone. They are sweet!!

your not suppose to loose distance with them, I wouldnt get them if I was loosing 10 yards per club, lol.

Lol, I definitely can't afford to lose any distance!!! Let alone 10 yards!!! Haven't heard anything about these being short hitting irons so I figure its just down to proper fitting and maybe hitting a bucket at the range to dial in the distances etc.

One thing is for sure...they do feel buttery soft, and the ball comes off the club face as sweet as anything :)

I've got the MX-200s, and demoed the MX-300s extensively-they are as long as anything I've hit. I'd say you're just getting used to them, and I'd add that despite their distance it's not the reason I play them. Great mix of forgiveness and feel-if I'm playing a course that's got a little bit of water, or if my wrist is sore then I don't think twice about putting the MX-200s in the bag. The 4 iron is like hitting a hybrid with

I think the MX-300 is right in between GI irons and players irons.
The face size and offset difference is quite noticeable between the MX-200 and the MX-300

Coming off some Ping G5 irons I looked at both the MX200 and MX300 and I could definitely see the difference in face size at address....as a pretty crappy golfer I felt more comfortable with the MX200 and went that route and have not been disappointed in the slightest, love these clubs. If/when I get my handicap down to a reasonable level I'll consider stepping up to the MX300. I'm completely sold on the Mizuno clubs though, absolutely love these things and haven't even looked at other irons since getting these.

I went from AP1's to the MX-25 (MX-200 is the newer replacement). AND there is no comparison between forged and cast..night and day. I'm play it with the DGSL R300 and it launches it MUCH higher than the DGSL shaft int he AP1's. I didn't get the MX-300 as the offset was less and the MX-25/200 were similar to the AP1's. Hands down..get the MX-200/25.

      Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.

      First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!

      Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
