I was playing yesterday and came across a situation where a dead tree limb fell off a tree landed halfway in the fairway and half in the woods....... my ball was in the fairway behind the limb. I drug the limb out of the fair way back into the woods. Is that a penalty?

No, i dont think so. Its a moveable obstruction not in a hazard.

I would say No...I move leaves and sticks from around my ball and I assume that would be the same, just a little bigger LOL.

you were in the fairway and it can be moved without unreasonable effort....no penalty. If it moved your ball in any way you'd get a one stroke penalty.

Yesterday, I was out playing a round and hit behind a tree. It apologized and got out of the way for me. I would assume that’s just considered a movable obstruction and your fine in moving it.

3 Wood: R9
Irons: Rac TP MB - (3-pw)Wedges: Rac TP z - 52*, 56*, 60*Putter: Black Series #1

No it's not. An obstruction "is anything artificial, including the artificial surfaces and sides of roads and paths and manufactured ice, except:..."

On the other hand loose impediments "are natural objects including: stones, leaves, twigs, branches and the like, dung, and worms, insects and the like, and the casts and heaps made by them, provided they are not fixed or growing, solidly embedded, or adhering to the ball." You still get to move it in the fairway. But it's not an obstruction.

Yep, but you have to be more careful than with an obstruction since there's a penalty if you move your ball.

I agree with the Loose Impediment ruling. Having said that, the local rule at my course if the branch were too big to be moved is Ground Under Repair.

I just want to apologize for that limb being in your way. I hit it 3 days in a row and went out the night before with my chainsaw and removed it. I just forgot to drag it into the woods... Sorry but yes it is free relief...
