quick question - I was told by a callaway rep that Prject x 5.5 Stiffs would play SLIGHTY LESS stiff then my true temp s300's which are stiff. which is what I think I want. I currently have the s300s in my titliest irons and I hit my 7 iron about 160-165 depending. I have a high ball flight and it annoys me. does this sounds right?? 5.5 flighted stiff playing slightly less stiff then the true temps s300's I currently have?? With my current shafts dont feel hardly any whip at all

I may be speaking out of turn here but I think this right a 6.0 is slightly stiffer than the S300. I am anxious to here some responses to this to because I am in the same boat as you. My short irons are a little high and my long irons are a little low.

The flighted version of the PX irons will help you with that. However, I've heard that the 5.5 play slightly stiffer than the DGS300 while the X100s are between the 6.0 and 6.5. I've tried the 5.5 and would not consider them as stiff as the S300s I game.

I am not talking about my long Irons - they are great trajectory wise. my short irons balloon - please not as well:
I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT 6.0 - I AM ONLY TALKING ABOUT COMPARING 5.5 STIFFS TO TRUE TEMPERS S300 STIFFS - PLEASE KEEP THE DISCUSSION ON THOSE TWO SHAFTS SPECIFICALLY THANKS

I was answering redsox98's question. Could that be why I quoted his post in my reply?

Going back to the topic, are you sure you need PX shafts? 5.5 seems like wat ur looking for in terms of stiffness but they launch the ball higher than the DGs you play. Are you looking into the PX 5.5 Flighted for your shorter clubs?

yea the 5.5 flighted shafts are what I am considering. I am also looking for a bit more whip to maybe add a few yards extra

from what i've heard and experienced, i'd rate them stiff wise as such:

PX5.5 < S300 < PX6.0 < X100 < PX6.5 As andef suggested, a flighted shaft will help keep your long irons a bit higher, while keeping your short iron lower. I have flighted 6.0's and I definitely love this shaft on my long irons. My 3/4 irons get a nice lift and I have great confidence playign them and getting them to land softer. as for my short irons, I've played S300's for many years and comparatively speaking, does the PX6.0 Flighted actually keep my short irons low? Eh...its negligible in my opinion. I'd take a long hard look at PX5.5 Flighted and see if you can try them out somewhere.

I played the flighted PX5.5's in the Callaway X-tours for a few weeks before I got the split cavities with the DGS300's. The 5.5's are definitely whippier but launch higher than the DGS300. I was hitting the 5.5's longer but had some erratic distances at times. DGS300 gave me much more consistent yardages even though it was about 5 yards shorter on average. I know you said you wanted to compare only those two shafts but have you given the KBS shafts any thought?

This has been my understanding with regards to the stiffness of DG vs. PX as well.

I agree with shade. I've played both the s-300 and the NON flighted PX 5.5 and 6.0 shafts. My experience is I get less ballooning with the PX. The scoring irons are a bit lower than s-300 and the long iron trajectory is fine.

For me the PX shaft has a smoother release, especially when I torque up a swing for a little extra. A common complaint about PX is they have a bit of a rebar feel. As long as I stay aggressive they are fine for me.

My fitter said that the Project X 5.5 is a bit in between R300 and S300, but closer to the S300 than to the R300 ...... I wanted a bit more life in my long irons, so he is putting in Project X 5.5 shafts into my 3, 4 and 5 irons. I will hit them on saturday as we than have a training for our competition team. He expects that the PX 5.5 will add about 5-7 yds. compared to the S300 (about half a club) ..... mostly because the shaft is about 10 grams lighter.

The FCM comparison doesn't say much as none of the mentioned shafts are frequency matched.

My fitter says : R300 < PX 5.5 < S300 < PX 6.0 < X100 < PX 6.5
