Just over 24 hours to go, and probably the biggest tournament of the year in golf, in terms of the importance; 4 players bidding for Number 1, and all could challenge very strongly or win.

Meanwhile all Major Champions are there of 2010, and will possibly be one of the tightest contested Majors/WGC of the year.

Would like to have seen Manassero, Noh & Ishikawa paired together for Round 1 Tee Times. :(

Also, 7 Japanese players, and 3 others form the Japan Golf Tour. :D

Im just hoping for a strong showing from Tiger. I'm an avid golf follower and watch tournaments with or without him, but you can't deny the excitement when he's in contention and playing well. GO TIGER!!

As Jeff would say, Boom baby!

The HSBC does tend to be a good one though. I watched every minute of it last year and it was one of the most entertaining tournaments of the year. The Asian fans don't really get that you can't take pictures during swings etc, but it didn't disrupt the proceedings too much. The Tiger/Phil battle last year was a lot of fun. There was one hole, a long par three, Phil was hitting first and I seem to remember him making a big song and dance about what he was going to hit. He eventually settled on a club, loudly announced what it was and hit a nice one close. Then a confused looking Tiger steps up and tries to murder one, hooking it into the water. Phil marched on ahead of him and the goofy grin on his face was priceless. Few amusing pictures from the build up to this year's tournament..

That's what you call a coincidence. Historically speaking, is this tournament extremely important?

It's a WGC, so it is important anywya.

But I never says it wasn't a coincidence, or that it is historically important. I never mentioned history whatsoever at all - I meant THIS tournament, THIS week is one of the most important in the year, due to the whole Rankings Battle that has happened, yes, coincidentally, just before this tournament.

You said it's probably the biggest tournament of the year in golf. Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 tournaments that are bigger. But maybe that's just me.

He meant it's the biggest of year in the context that any one of 4 players could be number 1 after it. There hasn't been a single tournament all year that could have shifted around the world rankings that much.

I guess "importance" is open for interpretation. I'd suggest that temporarily grabbing the #1 spot in the WGR is decidedly less important than winning a major or the Players, but what do I know having never been in either position.

I don't think the fact that is could shift the rankings makes it "important". I'm going to have to agree with sean_miller. The rankings are so tight that all of the upcoming tournaments (mostly at the beginning of next year) will have several guys trying to get the top spot. And when next season starts up, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk will be just a win and a high finish away from the top spot.

But, most of the tournaments at the start of the year won't have all the guys in the field, cept WGC & Majors, only really 8 tournaments a year with all those battling for the rankigns in field.

I don't knwo but I think it's important as it's the last full-field event of the year in terms of world best players, and could change the landscape of golf. Just opinions.

The Northern Trust at Riviera usually draws some top players, as does the AT&T; National at Pebble. But, yes, there won't be many events will all of the top players until the Match Play.

Then I guess we just have different opinions with what is important. Nothing wrong with that.

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
