Hello there,

a Ping HL 2-iron has been on and off in my bag since 2003, going through swing changes I have taken it out, only to put it back in when my changes have grooved.  It is a very effective club when you're swinging well but the offset on the clubhead is bothering me at times, also I will need to reshaft it for the upcoming summer.  Going with it to the pro shop the specalist there hinted that I could do worse than checking out a newer club for example a hybrid, or another 2/3 iron with a less of an offset.

I have been checking out the 909H from Titleist and i15 from Ping (we don't get latest models until summer is knocking on the door).

Are there any of you who have replaced a 2-iron with a hybrid and if so what is the most exciting one?

I absolutely love my Callaway FT hybrids. I got mine for under $100 each on the Callaway Preowned site. "Like new" is brand new on that site. Great way to score premium clubs on the cheap. The hybrids are long and straight. Stupid easy to hit as well. Can't believe it took me so long to get a hybrid. They are among my most valuable clubs now.

I ditched my 2 iron a few years ago for a Nickent 3dx 17 degree. I never was real crazy about that club, but it did the job, and I just picked up the Adams Pro Gold 18* with the Matrix shaft in it to replace it.  The hybrid gives you a little more flexibility from a variety of lies (rough, bunkers, slope, chipping, punches) where I always found the two iron to be limited to really nice lies.  The Adams I am picking up has almost no offset so I will report back this weekend once I have time to get it on the course.

I haven't really missed the two except for nostalgia purposes.  I mean who doesn't love blistering a 2 iron of the tee on a 380 yard par 4 to set you up for an 8 or 9 iron? The 2H is the club I look for at 225 out and I can always grip down some to take a little off and from the tee I can get 230-240 out of it.  I still keep a 3 iron so I have the long iron blister if I need it.

Thanks for the tips there, I have been browsing the web for reviews for hybrids (even though the first playable month here is March) through the day,  will definitely look at Callaway and Adams.

I have not ever found a hybrid that I like.  I hit everyone of them too high, no matter what shaft is in it.  I am a natural drawer of the ball, and I think that all hybrids are hook weighted.  I can't control it with wind, and in Texas there is always wind.  I have a g10 2iron on order, can't wait for it to come in.  So I am with you on this, if you like the two iron, keep it.

I currently carry the Titleist 909H 19* with Aldila Voodoo shaft.  There are probably more "user-friendly" hybrids out there, but I like mine.  It's good for those long shots into the green with bunkers in front since it can launch the ball so high, yet stop quickly.  Best thing is for you to try some hybrids out yourself.

I picked up a Nickent 4DX 17* and loved it so much I dropped my 3 iron and added a 20* to match. Prior to that I had a Mizuno Fli-Hi which I liked but I couldn't work it left and right as much as I'd like to so I'm happy with the ease of hitting the Nickent's. Also, you can find Nickent anything for about 50% of what Titleist or Callaways would cost you.

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
