I was just reading the article on the main page here about the new R11, Superfast 2.0 and the new TM forged irons coming out.  One thing I noticed is the R11 will be released with a 9 and 10.5 loft for righties and 9.5 and 10.5 for lefties.  I was wondering if anyone else noticed the 9 not 9.5?  I play a 9.5 and will be picking one up on Feb 4th but Im a little weary now that there's no 9.5 loft.  Im not sure if I want to bump up to a 10.5.  But I also feel a 9 will be too little.  Thoughts?

Yep, the article is correct, not a typo. They're offering a 9° and 10.5° for righties, 9.5° and 10.5° for lefties. Of course, it being an adjustable club means that you can adjust it to 9.5° loft if you'd like.

You're not the only one :-)

I'm not knocking TM by any means, I'm just really curious as to how well this one is adopted. TM has pushed the industry forward from a technology standpoint, that's something no one can deny. I just have a few questions that I thought should have been covered in their original press releases. And I'm also interested in everyone's opinion on the white crown on both the R11 and Burner SuperFast 2.0 which, coincidentally, was a nickname for a girl I knew in college. Let me tell ya, there are some things that even bleach can't clean off.

From how I read it, to make it a 9.5 you have to adjust the face open/close angle as well right?

FCT allows for up to 1° higher loft or 1° lower loft, with intermediate .5° intervals in between. As you increase loft, the face angle will close along with it. So basically, if you do set it to that intermediate .5° increase in loft, you'll close the face angle a little bit (but you will get your desired 9.5° of loft).

If you look down at the club and think that it looks too closed, you can then use ASP (Adjustable Sole Plate) to change the face angle. Though after reading the info a number of times, it looks like the options there aren't quite as granular as FCT is. Don't quote me on this quite yet, until we hear something back from TM, but it looks like with ASP you'll be opening or closing it the full 2° with each adjustment.

This is at the top of my list to try once the outdoor ranges open here.  I "think" I like the idea of the white club head and the adjustability of it.  I would of course find one setting and keep it there, however sounds like you will be able to set it up just how you like it.  I hope it comes with some sort of chart, I can see this thing becoming like a rubics cube and after a while you won't be able to put it back to the original setting.

Depends, what's your ball flight look like right now? Is your most frequent miss right or left? And not to be a dick or anything, though I know it might come off that way, but how are you dead set on picking one up on February 4th, even though you haven't hit it? I'm in no way saying don't try it out, I have just learned to go in to the shop with no intent on buying anything, instead go in with a few products you'd like to try. What if you hit the R9 SuperTri consistently better?

Was discussing this earlier, and I'm very curious to know the same thing. For example, on Nike STR8-Fit drivers and fairways, there is a guide both on the butt of the grip and on the hosel adapter that serves as a reminder of what exactly the current settings are. I know that the TM FCT hosel adapter has markings that are similar, but other than that, my best guess is that you have to check out the setting on the sole plate as well as the hosel adapter and set them both to their neutral setting (to get it back to normal). As for a guide that tells you what the effective loft/lie/face angle, after you've modified ASP and FCT? I'm wondering the same thing.

Oh yeah, and as soon as we hear back from TM with more details, I'll update the Bag Drop post as well as this thread.

I dont feel like you are being a dick so no worries.  By pick one up I meant hitting it and making sure I like it.  If for some reason I hated it or was better with the R9 I obviously wouldn't buy one.  It was the wrong wording on my part.

As far as missing and ball flight, I feel like I make great contact but I not getting the max distance I should be.  When I miss its a slice right but I do have that about one time a round left hook.

Cool, no problem at all. Cheers, brutha

And if your normal miss is right, then using FCT to close it a half degree or even a full degree (which would effectively make the loft 9.5° or 10°) would probably work out well, as it would make those misses less severe or not even noticeable. Looks to me the 9° might just work out well for you.

Ive been tempted to do that with the SuperTri I have but I have the reservation that if I do that, wouldn't my straight shots then turn into a left hook, while my right slices straighten out?

This is the curse of the adjustable driver. I kept messing with mine, and in turn, it would mess with my head. I finally decided to set it at a true neutral setting and just work on the swing. When I bought the driver I believed it would be the Do-All-End-All driver for me, but you start thinking about it too much and it will muck with your swing.

I dont have a problem mentally with it.  I wouldnt get that wrapped up thinking about it personally.  For me its just a common sense thought.

OK so this has been driving me nuts since I saw the proto pics:  from an engineering perspective, how does the adjustable sole plate manipulate the face angle?  It doesn't appear to have any influence mechanically, but there has to be something.  Any ideas?

Yeah, let me be clear about one thing - I am by no means a proponent of fixing a swing flaw with technology. I know on both adjustable drivers I own, I knew where I wanted them, I set them, and rarely ever change it after. I have made small changes a couple of times to help me keep the ball lower on windy days, but for the most part, I set it and forget it.

toddmlazarchick,

To answer your question, closing the face .5° won't turn your straight shots into a left hook. The cause of the slice or hook is the swing path, not the face angle at impact. See Erik's killer post on this subject. While 3° might be a bigger difference than one would expect, I wouldn't expect the the half degree shut would be that drastic. If your swing path is correct though, you'd end up a tiny bit left of your target due to a very slight pull. Closing the face won't really fix the slice either, you will just be a little closer to the fairway since you started the ball a little bit more to the left and then it sliced to the right. Make sense?

Not quite sure yet, but will update the post when the guys at TM get back to us (given that it's not some proprietary thing that they can't reveal).
