They say that if "you're not cheated you're not trying". I would like to think that saying excludes the game of golf and the majority of it's golfers.

Let's be honest, if you really wanted to win a FOUR-MAN SCRAMBLE for your local charity it's not very hard; just fill out the entire scorecard at the first hole...lol

Played in a charity event on Monday, we shot -19... Our team consisted of 4 single digit players and a mulligan package..lol.. We all played well, everything was going in. We are very competitive but at the same know how to have fun on the course, it evens itself out.

We had decided to donate the prizes back to the charity, thinking that they could raffle them off. Come to find out that another team came in at -20.. The team was a 65 year old man (using persimmon woods), the local "bookmaker", town drunk and his teenage son....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

WHAT CAN YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has this happened to you

Oh yeah, it's happened to everyone I'd imagine.

Here's the deal, if your -19 had won, there would have been a team sitting at -18 figuring that you guys had cheated too!

The thing is - a scramble tournament is very easy for people to cheat, as there is no one to attest their score.  Add to that mulligans that can be purchased, string used to count short tapins, other silly rules.  These tournaments are just for charity, if you enter them with the intent to actually win, you'll generally be disappointed.

Don't count out the drunks!!   I know a couple of drunks that are hella players!  I also know an old man (around 65 ish) that gets to hit from the senior tees.  In good health and hits the ball as far as any of us from our tees.  So when he gets to move up to the seniors, he is a major asset!

But yeah, it has happened to me before as well.  It's easy to know what happens when you know the guys on the winning team.  But its all in fun...most of the winners around here turn out to be the ones that are willing to buy the most mulligans.  You never have a clue how many they bought and they are constantly using them.

Does anyone know exactly how string works?? Played in a 4 man scramble, yes for charity. The goal is to raise money, I understand that. However, what is string?  I've playing in a lot of these tournaments and love them. I just have never played with string. It was a dollar per foot buy as much as you want. This is how we played. Example-Par 5 on in two, 25 footer for eagle, lag up our putt to 5 inches. Cut 5 inches of string off and mark down a 3?? Really? It was a blast, my team won. But really? Btw, my index is 6 and I was our D player and NO I'm saying what we shot.

It sounds like you figured out what string is!!  I'm guessing your team bought the string for $5/foot or something like that.  Money goes to charity, that's what's important in the end.

I love that there are still places in this country that have a "town drunk."  That's awesome .  Was the old guy really using persimmon woods?

On a more serious note, this "4 man scramble" cheating thing really is disturbing to me.

    • I am listening to 23rd Street.  24 hours a day of cars, trucks, planes, sirens, and neighbors who start lawn mowers at 6:30am. I try to drown it out with 7,600 WAVE music files on a huge USB drive.  Mostly 1950's through 1990's music.
    • Thanks! Evolvr, for sure. My indoors setup is pretty close to ready. I want to add a few more lights as it's a pretty dark place to begin with (old barn). Plan to use my iPhone 14 Pro, 720p 240 FPS. I think I got a tripod somewhere, but I nail everything down so I'll make a small box I can just plop the phone into. That way I know it's always in the same spot and level. How does the setup look in terms of angles and stuff.  I saw that topic and bookmarked it for later. A technique where you want the head to move forward and down? I've been doing that for twenty years! (not on purpose) 😛 Looks fun, I'll certainly try it out. £7000. That's certainly "down the line". What would be a good price? Thanks. I'll probably hold off until at least winter comes and see where we're living at that point. For the next six months I'll combine indoor practice with the range, which helps.
