Hi guys,

I'm REALLY having a tough time with this new driver of mine.

I know I don't have a video cam to show you my swing, but if I can describe and perhaps you guys give me the

basic ideas how to set up correctly and  thoughts, etc, it'd be appreciated.

My previous driver was the R9 Super Tri TP 10.5*   which averages me around 283yds. And I was REALLY comfy with it.

the setting is all neutral .

My R11 TP set up = All neutral, no changes made on the weights, FCT nor ASP

1. Ball teed up = equator of ball slightly lower than top of club face

2. Stance = shoulder width

3. Ball = Infront of my left heel and I kept trying to move it into my instep even.

4. Body = tilted to the back a little

5. Weight = on left foot about 70% and it feels that my hips are bumped forward on address a little.

Results = Consistently I hit the ball not higher than my knee height.

and when I hit it better, not higher than my head height.

I became really frustrated ... since after 3 weeks of owning this driver, my tee shots are terrible.

So if you can give me basic setup and swing, thoughts, etc, to give me back my confidence so that I can start

working on it, it'd be great.

PS: is going from a 10.5* to a 9* that big of a difference? Do I need to make swing changes?

The good news is your club can tell you if Loft is the problem. Adjust it to maximum loft (Which would be about 10.25, I think) and see if you see a difference. Also you could try teeing it up a little higher. If neither of those things help, it's your swing

Thanks, yes, I put it at +1 which is 10* and set the face back to neutral. Which is still 0.5* lower than my old one.

Going to really test it today.

btw, how much body tilt is the right tilt you think? LIke how do you feel it?

I just lost all confidence in my drives...

Why did you buy it if you can't hit it?

Not trying to be an *******, but did you test it first?

Have you gone back to your R9 and see how it works? If you were comfy with it, you should of stuck with it

I would agree with the other poster, loft is probably your problem. Actually I would say that most likely its a good thing that its not going high....meaning your not adding loft in your swing, which is good. So don't compensate by trying to lift the ball up, instead let the club do the work. Your current club just has to low of loft for you, so adjust it to the highest setting and see what happens. Why did you switch clubs in the first place?

I didn't buy it... some moron from another tee box hit a slice, landed on my Driver and 3W, damaging the clubheads.

Returned it to the store for warranty and got this R11TP since they discontinued the R9

I opted for the 9* because I started to hit my 10.5 higher and further also the pro shop here recommended I get a 9* now, to have a longer and more penetrating ball flight.

Guys, Looks like it's not the driver... no matter the setting I hit it bad.

So it's my swing, I think I lost my driving swing... how do I regain it back?

Start from beginning as if it's a new driver and I'm a newbie?

How are you hitting your 3w off the tee?  The two swings shouldn't be that much different, so if you're hitting your 3w okay you shouldn't be that far off on your driver.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I rarely hit a 3W off the tees. Usually it's my 4h. But 3w off the fairway has gotten bad too. I don't have anymore confidence in my ball set up as well as stance and down swing on my driver anymore. Everything else is fine, specially my short game. But this bloody drive is costing me too many strokes that i have to recover from.

Do you feel like right now you have two completely different swings ( iron swing, wood swing)?  Also, when you were playing your best did you feel like you had two very different swings?

That's a great question!

And yes, I feel like I have 2 very different swings.

No problems with irons and I can feel me hitting down.

with Driver, it feels like I need to tilt my body more and hit up on the ball, but I kept missing the sweet spot.

With 3W, feels like I need to have a level sweeping motion.

Hmm... when I was playing at my best and was able to hit all my clubs out of the bag, I wouldn't say 2 "very" different swing,

3W all the way down to LW feels like 1 swing.

The driver is the only one that feels a bit different, but not by much.

Hence why I feel like I have lost my driver / wood swings

Ok I would give you this advice.....The average tour player hits down on a driver. So think of it this way, why would you want to use  your power propelling the ball up, and not forward. If you driver does not have enough loft on it then you will start to compensate to add loft to it....so instead get a club that does that work for you. One of the reasons you could be missing the sweet spot, is because to hit up on the ball you kind of have to be falling a little back. If your falling backwards then it makes it much harder to make solid contact. So its fairly simple, you driver needs to change. You might find that you need even higher then the 10.5 to be able to have that same swing throughout and be rewarded for it with ballflight. Tiger uses a 10.5 and has a ton of ss behind it, so unless you have the same power as tiger...then that is most likely to low.

Thanks for the input, but that's not the case with me. my 10.5 goes up too high.

And I have tested 9* and 10* , it went the same angle almost. It's my swing, not the driver.

Yesterday I changed some of my settings and I can hit it better at 9* .

However, I didn't know that the average tour player hits DOWN with the driver??

A few questions:

1) what shaft is in the R11?  what shaft was in the ST?

2) when you address the ball pre-backswing, do you sole the club or hover the club?

3) if you sole the club, do you align the ball with the toe of your driver or with the center?

If you are hitting the ball and it doesn't get over 6 feet high in the air then you are either hitting the ball way low on the clubface, or are really delofting the club at impact.

Your setup sounds a bit strange to me, 70% weight on the left foot?

Try aligning the ball closer to the toe and see what happens.....

I would either try to get as good a video as you can from both side and rear views or seek out an instructor. If your not getting it above you head its not the club's fault. I'm pretty sure I could hit my putter above head height off a tee if it tried. No offense to those that have tried to help but in all likelihood this thread will either not help or make it worse.

Also while I have my doubts as to whether this would fix your issues but the resale value of your new r11 could buy you a used R9 pretty easily if you wanted to go that route.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
