Driver high shots

I seem to be hitting me driver really high, thus resulting in less distance. I tee the ball, so that the top of the ball is just above the head of the driver and position the ball just to the right of my big toe.. I have an r7 limited with a regular shaft. Would a stiffer shaft lower the height of the ball?

I can relate to your problem.  I just made the switch from a regular to a stiff shaft.  I have not seen any difference in ball flight.  I was looking to bring it down a little and that is what was suggested to me by the guy at the local driving range.  Luckily I don't lose much distance when I put them up there.  But sometimes I feel like a homerun hitter watching it fly to deep left center with a towering shot!!! Its pretty annoying.   Good luck on finding the answer.  I am curretnly working on bringing the ball back in my stance to force myself to hit it lower.  Might try that, its the only thing I could think of.

Stiffer shafts do not really make the ball go lower or higher.

Higher weighted shaft = lower shot

Kick point affects ball flight more than stiffness. Stiffness will be if your ball goes left or right if your swing is to slow or to fast for the shaft.

you need a shaft with a higher kickpoint.  What is the loft of your driver? Might it just be too high for you?

A stiff shaft can make your trajectory lower. It all depends on your swing though. This is one instance where perhaps a simulator at a golf shop may be able to nail down why your skying the ball before you go spending money on different shafts. A pro may also be able to adjust the kickpoint on your current shaft by taking a bit off the top or bottam. Id try to get information before you lay down cash on an expensive shaft.

One other thing to keep in mind. If your not in the windiest conditions and your distances are OK then increased height on driver shots can give you more accuracy and reduce the effects of any slice or hook.

Ball goes up for two reasons: launch angle and backspin. High ball could be launching too high. My guess is that it is backspin is too high based on the high and die flight you describe. Shaft/head combos change both numbers. Go to a big-box store like Golfsmith and ask them to test your current swing on your current driver and have them make suggestions. They should have product suggestions for you to hit and compare numbers. Even better if you could find a place with an outdoor range that would test and fit you for free. I've been told that a paradox of tee height is that hitting the ball on the top half of most new drivers lowers spin and does not add much to launch angle. Thus, teeing it higher might lower your ball flight.
