Where I live, we don't have the luxury of grass driving ranges, short game practice areas or real practice putting greens. Since I started golf almost exactly 2 years ago this month, I thought it was time to step up and dedicate a full week to golf. The obvious choice was to go and see the guys from Golf Evolution in Erie, PA.

After the 16 hours trip from Tokyo to Erie, I went to check out the facility and meet with Erik who spent a lot of time on and off the facility, making sure I felt right at home.

Everyone at the academy: Erik, Dave and James went out of their way to make my week 100% awesome. I was able to take AimPoint classes, hit balls off grass (this may sound stupid, but I was like a kid on Christmas day), chip for hours, go through putter fitting, and last but not least understand what I should work on and why, and see improvements quickly. Dave and Erik improved my short game in a few hours. James made me feel and grasp the proper sequencing of the full swing. All three guys know their stuff. It's not only about good instructions, it's about people who are trying to understand what you feel and guide you towards what makes you better.

I could go on and on, but I'll simply say this: in one week, I was able to learn, improve, enjoy and play golf with awesome people.

I made the trip from Tokyo and this was worth every second. If you're anywhere closer to them than me, you should go and pay them a visit.

Wow, that's some serious dedication right there. Remind me not to question that if we ever get into a debate in the future

Now I feel like a jackass for thinking the 10 hour drive to Erie is way too long.

Great post though. I wouldn't doubt for a second that you'll be shooting better scores really, really soon. I'd say keep up the good work, but I don't think you need to hear that!

Hey kurisu, it was nice meeting you last week. I think you did a wise thing, if someone asked me how to get better, I'd tell them to do exactly what you did. I wish I had to foresight to do it years ago. I think in the long run, it's the best value for your money.

And I know what it's like to not have access to a grass range, or close to it - at least I can get to one, but it's at least 1.5 hours away. At least the fake grass in some ranges is getting better.

If you ever get to NYC and want to play, let me know. I can show you the New Yawk 6+ hour round (not), ha ha.

Thanks guys!

I don't regret a second of it. I can't say enough good things about these guys. Obviously you can't become a single digit hcp in one week, but I learnt how to practice, could see in my own swing what pieces I need to work on, and what each does to the shot. I believe the best instructors are the ones that listen and ask the most questions to the student, and find the words that will "talk to you" the most and make you do the right things repeatedly.

They also gave me printouts of my improvements, it's the stuff I'll use at the range from now on until I get those pieces right.

Seriously, "these guys are good" :-)

@nevets88: thanks man! indeed great to meet you too! I'll hold you to that offer next time I'm in the US

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
