I just bought some new Winn Lite Soft grips for my irons. I am planning on blowing them on with my air compressor. What is the best way to do this? Should I put some tape on the the shaft still so the grips have something to hold on to? or will they hold no matter what.

Winn grips, especially the Lite grips, are ones I don't recommend blowing on.  I have had "OK" luck with the Excels, but not so much the soft (they have twisted easily).  Then again, I was just using painters tape.  But I've had no problems with any other grips.

If you do decide to do it, I would still use double sided tape, but blow on without using solvent.

Naive question here, Why would one blow the grip on instead of just using solvent?

Because it's easier (at least in some people's opinion) and a lot less messy.

no thanks - I've done dozens of clubs already and the solvent method works great.    I've used compressor to try and get old grips off without damaging them - works about half the time (if I use a heat gun on the grip, compressor works almost every time).

I saw a few videos of using the compressor method and it looked like it worked good and was really quick.

I use an air compressor; it's awesome.  For irons I put double-sided tape on at the top and down about 1/2" - 1", mainly to keep the sharp edge of the shaft from cutting in to the grip.  I dab my finger in some solvent and lightly coat the tape and the inside of the grip.  I slide the grip onto the butt of the shaft and then, using the compressor set at about 60 psi, I shoot in bursts of air and slide the grip down and in to position.  Works great.  Not messy.  Easy as all get-go to remove and re-use/sell the grips.  I used to do it the old fashioned way (tape and solvent) and I'll never go back to that.

And, FTR, I've done it with the Winn Lite DSi grips with no problems whatsoever.

Hmm, I like the heat idea when blowing off.  I damaged one grip already at 60 PSI.
