More interesting because he'd previously insisted, repeatedly, that he wasn't going to jump early.

Quote:

"I'm going to be there for four years. I'm going to finish up. I love it in Stillwater," Uihlein said on Wednesday. "Surprising, but I do love it out there. I love all of the people and I love the school. So if I can go more, I would. But four years."

Most guys in Uihlein's position would probably consider turning pro at this point. That why it's refreshing to see golf's top amateur enjoying life and wanting to hang around college for another year. With so many people wanting a piece of you when you turn pro, it's clear Uihlein wants to spend the next couple of years just being kid and improving his game, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Stretch.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I feel pretty safe is saying that he's not doing this because he needs the money. Perhaps he's simply accomplished all that he believes he can (or wants to) as an amateur.

Sure. And I am sure part of his love of european golf is that he can only get like 7 exemption (I assume he will have no problem getting them) into PGA events which isn't a very full calendar. I am a bit surprised because I thought he was close to graduation but maybe his progress wasn't as on schedule.

Yep. But 7+7+ whatever nationwide is a decent schedule. There was also something where if he makes enough money on the Euro tour during those 7 events he can get his card for the rest of the season.

I guess the big question I have about Uihlein's decision is, "Why now?" He could have turned pro after one of the majors this year (as Bud Cauley did), or even after the Walker Cup (as Tom Lewis did), and tried to play his way onto a tour in 2012.

Because he probably changed his mind.

More OSU boys to cheer for next year. Good on him. Cant wait to see more of him on the tour. Im going to predict that he will win an event before Fowler does which is not easy for me to say because I am a huge fan of Fowler outside of the fact that he is OSU Alumni. They just keep producing great golfers.
