You never play well at...There is this course here in Vegas, that I have played about 6 times with a friend from work and no matter what I always play terrible. Not just bad, but terrible. I make more stupid mistakes there than anywhere. It's like all of my fundamentals go right out the door. I play so bad there that I'm surpirsed I get invited back to play again. I love playing with the group they are really fun to play with and I always have a great time but I just play terrible. Anybody else have that one course that just kills you, if so does it still or did you overcome it...

It's not even a really hard course it just has to be a mental block or something on my part.

Any advice...

Not courses for me, but holes.

Number 8 at Meadowood - 410 yard par 4, never gotten less than a 6 here. Usually, a ball ends up in the greenside lake, or out of bounds behind the green. (I overcame this with a birdie earlier this year.) Number 18 at Fox Run - 515 yard par 5. Best ever, bogey 6. Worst...well, that I kept score of, 12, twice. Two or three balls wind up in the water, because I don't learn my lesson at times, or I knock one out of bounds. (Still working on getting less than a snowman on a regular basis here.)

At a course that I play a lot now, there is a par 3 140. Water to the right but it really isn't in play unless a really bad shot. 140 is just a funny distance for me because of my gap between my PW and SW. I did just order a GW but i haven't received it yet. I usually have to hit an easy PW or power my SW and i always mess up. I did birdie this hole a week ago but usually i get a 4+ on it. Its the easiest hole on the course too.

I also have holes that I just cannot seem to score well on, I think it is the angle that the have the tee box set up relative to the hole.

For some reason there are are a couple of holes at the course I usually play that just seem to wear me out.

Keep it on the short grass.

I know how you feel, I have a course like that in mind. It's a small course (60.6/102 - Par 64), but pretty challenging with very tight fairways, and lots of O.B. and hazards. My first outing, I didn't expect to card such a high score. I went a few more times with some friends, and with time, got more and more better (but still had a couple blow up rounds). I think it's not necessarily you or your golf game making the mistakes, because I can relate to this, and thinking back, I feel it is all in your head. The course you played terrible at will by etched in your mind that you played bad on it. You just have to conquer the course and not think of your past rounds and mistakes you made on the course. Finally, I shot a great round at my course (+4), I didn't go O.B., had some straight drives, I hit a pin on an approach shot to a Par 4, and was inches away to acing a downhill Par 3. Next time you go out to the course in Vegas, just don't even think of your past rounds, just go out and play. Cheers!

I have a course exactly like that. My buddies and I would always play this course in college. I was a 36 handicap back then and always got killed by all of them. I've gone back every summer to play with them and always played terrible. This past year, I was on fire at my home course the week before I went, so I was feeling confident. Stepped up to the first tee and duck hooked one OB!! I should just hand my wallet to my buddies before we even tee off!

The country club where my in-laws are members always gets in my head. I absolutely love the course! However, I am intimidated by it.

"Mature, tree-lined fairways have remained throughout the course’s history, putting a premium on accurate driving of the golf ball. The speed of the well-manicured greens in concert with the subtle contour of the landscaping creates some of the most challenging putting surfaces in the Midwest."

It's an absaolutely gorgeous course and maintained beyond belief..... I just can't seem to shake the ghosts in my head and play fundamental golf there. I live in the trees that line the fairways.

There is a par 5 at my home course that I have played since 1978. It was the only hole that I had not birdied or eagled in almost 29 years and probably 3000 attempts. Now that is frustration!. I finally birdied it in December 2006.
Since then I have birdied it 5 more times. Never, never, never give up!!

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
