Can I clean up old clubs?

Hi everyone

 

I was recently offered to buy some nice iron and wedges by a family friend - they are Ping i-10s and some Titleist Vokey wedges, with a bronze-ish finish. Still in very good condition but the heads are a little worn from use. The irons are ok and the vokey wedges are almost rusty at the club head....are these still worth a cheap bid? Can the pro shop do some cleaning or polishing to make them look new again?

Some wedges are made to rust - the rust adds friction to the face - you don't clean these.

 

It will be cheaper to buy clubs in better condition then pay to have them cleaned up beyond what we do at the kitchen sink.

For the most part, that is true. It won't add significant spin or stopping power

Thanks guys, I might take them down to the local pro shop to see if they can do anything - the clubs do feel good but I just don't want to get rust on my hands when I take them out of my bag

 

Maybe I could polish them up at the pro shop, see what they can do

 

Does anyone have any experience of cleaning up old second hand clubs?

Go to the auto store and buy a quality mag wheel polish.

 

Don't use Naval Jelly - it dulls the finish.

 

Wendol metal polish is what museums use. But it removes the paint and any coatings a club may have, such as gun blue.

 

As to rust not being a help.....why bother making clubs that are meant to rust.....just more marketing stupidly.

 

I need to carry gun oil for my putter!
