Can you give me examples of decent soft low spin balls?

I am a 26 HCP and find I play better with soft low spin balls that minimize my swing inconsistencies and match my slow swing speed. I am willing to give up spin on the greens for a more forgiving ball at this point in my playing career.

I like the Nike PD soft, but would like to try other balls. Appreciate suggestions.

Thanks.

Pinnacle Gold doesn't get much respect, but would probably be worth giving a sleeve of them a try. They are softer compression - and would help your "lefts" and "rights" be less drastic.

Srixon Laddie - is a great ball. It was made for women originally, but so many guys liked them (so I heard) they tweaked it a bit, changed the name of the ball and it is a standard.

Let us know what you come up with.

Enjoy the game.

Titleist 910D2 10.5* Stiff / Taylormade 3 Wood - Superfast 2.0 15*  3 Superfast 2.0 Rescue 18* Stiff Shafts

I have to agree with Old on the Pinnacle Gold. Bought a sleeve at the pro shot for 5 bucks. I was surprised how consistent the ball was. I also like the lower spins as it keeps my game to the middle of the fairway and middle of the green. In the past I liked the Top Flite D2 straight. I'm actually not going to try out the Titleist DT Solo and see how that works out. Curious on the new Srixxon balls too.

I agree with both above on the pinnacle gold. Couple of my brother in laws rented clubs a few rounds ago and they came with a couple sleeves of the pinnacles. They gave me the balls after the round since they never play and I took them out instead of playing the Q star I usually do and I was very pleased with the pinnacles.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I found Srixon AD333 balls on sale, 2 dozen for $20.00, so I'll try those as well as looking at the Pinnacles.

Check out the May 2012 issue of Golf Digest.  There was an article that compared about 30 balls in different price ranges and what their characteristics were.  Might help if you can find it.

ps - I missed that you said you like the Nike PD soft.  I used to play them... they are solid balls, especially for the price.  If it weren't for the high trajectory, I'd probably still be playing them.

I wanted a little more boring trajectory, but still soft feel and lower spin than a tour ball.  I wound up choosing the NXT Tour and I've been very happy with it.  You mentioned you have a slow swing speed, so maybe you'd want to consider the NXT Tour S instead if you went the Titleist route (they are a little pricey though).

Good luck with the Srixons (have not tried one yet)!

  • 2 weeks later...

Tried the Srixon AD333 balls for a couple of rounds. They didn't feel quite as soft as the Nikes, but flew pretty straight with decent distance. Lower ball flight than the Nikes. They didn't hold the greens well at all.

I think I'm going to give the Bridgestone E6 a try, and perhaps the Gamer V2.

I also tried a sleeve of Callaway HX Hot that were given to me. I liked them, except they aren't very durable.

The search continues.

I tried the Gamer V2's last week. Deffinently will be using them for a while. Got good distance off the tee and decent spin off the wedges. My buddies kind of looked at me funny when I told them I was playing top flights.

The Gamer V2 is a great ball. The Wilson Staff Duo is another great ball in the category you are looking for, and even better, the Wilson Staff 50 Elite, if you can find them. Cheap, but a great beginners ball.

But I noticed you said you tried Srixons and they didnt hold the green. You are going to have a tough time finding a ball in the category you want that does hold greens. IMO, the Wilson Staff Duo holds them better than most balls in your category, along with the Gamer V2.

There are also the Nike Crush, which are long and forgiving, but feel really hard around the green. This is the ball i've played that I like the least.

Im currently using the Penta TP5, with the 20XI and ProV1 in reserve. All three of those are absolutely fantastic balls, but dont really fit into the category you want.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

The Bridgestone E6 is good. I found one the other day and tried it. I ended up finishing the whole round with since i liked it so much. Then I bought a dozen:-) I see Srixon AD333 is mentioned here, but if the OP wants to try a Srixon ball, the Soft Feel matches his requirements better. It's Srixon's ball targeted for slow swing speeds <85 mph

Driver - Cleveland Launcher, Aldila DVS 55-R Shaft, cutoff to 42" 4 Wood - TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Superfast Hybrid - TaylorMade R11 Rescue, 18.5* Irons - 4-P TaylorMade R7 Wedges - Cleveland Forged 588's 50*, 54*, 60* Putter - Scotty Cameron Newport 1.5 Ball - Bridgestone E6 :-P
