I'm confused and this maybe a stupid question.  Some say you're not supposed to rotate your forearms at all on the backswing.  Others say some rotation is OK, a slight fanning after A2.  Is one way correct or is it specific to ones swing.  Thanks

Everyone rotates their forearm on the backswing. Some will wait until later than others (A2 to A4), others start it right away. Generally about 90°.

Yep. I hold off rotating as long as possible. Most pro instructors would say it's technically wrong but it is my swing now and forever. On my backswing at parallel, the toe of my club is not pointed up...at least not straight up as most instructors would say....then I just let it do what it does.

Where it is at setup. If it didn't rotate the clubhead would be sticking out over your head.

thanks for the replies.  My confusion comes from a few mvmac vids.  In one he cocks the club straight up and makes a turn.  In the other he holds the club out in front of him shoulder high and rotates 90 degrees and drops ths shoulder the get in the perfect backswing position.  Are these 2 different elements blended together on the backswing.

If setup is 0 or what you are measuring against, I would think you could see a good amount less than 90*. Even more so with the players that do a bunch of shallowing in transition.

I think we might be talking about things differently. 90° would be fairly standard. Third accumulator...

But i do have a question,

How does forearm rotation (and the timing of the forarm rotation) in the takeaway/backswing relate to when your back arm folds and then with then verticle angle of the backswing.

That might sound kind random, and the answer might be obvious but it relates to something i am working on and any better understanding is a good thing.

The videos serve different purposes.  This one is for players that get the club head too far inside the hands on the takeaway (I'm assuming you meant this one). It's to exaggerate the hinging feel.  Good swings will have a combo of some hinging, (up and down) and wrist bend (side to side).

The video where I have the club in front of me, what iacas posted, provides a good feel for players that over bend the right arm or get the right elbow past the shirt seam.  Might feel like the right hand is pushing into the left hand.  It also gives you an idea of how a centered pivot would look at the top of the back swing, other video below.  Want to be clear that these aren't feels that everyone should or needs to put into play, depends on the player and their needs.

+1 on the vids, outstanding. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. Been working

really hard all winter on the 5 keys. I hope the “indoor swing” will translate to some good

things when it finally warms up and can hit the range. Speaking of crazy. I told my wife I was

putting in a great big mirror in the bedroom. She was surprised but not as surprised when I

told her it was to practice my golf swing. Lucky I've got a comfy sofa

      Day 45 (22 Apr 26) - good friend wanted to play the Weds shootout. Glad we did as I had the most consistent round in a while - 38/41 for a 79 (first sub 80 in months): 27 putts, 9 pars (7 were up and down 1 putts), 8 bogies, 1 birdie and 0 dbls or worse!  This is the 1st full round where I’ve not had at least one dbl (or worse) and 0 penalties.  I also came 1 hole from having “no sixes” (bogied the par five 16th).  All the drills came together today for a solid round.

      Day 568 - 2026-04-22 Created a 33-minute playlist and paused it while I stopped. I mostly did some backswing and a little downswing work with the mirror. This got me most of the way through the playlist, so then I chopped for a good 15 or 20 minutes.
