So I typically shoot in the 80s and have broken 80 once before. After taking a solid break from golf after my senior year of high school, I've decided to ditch the Nike Ignites that somehow carries be through those years and pick up some new clubs. I've been doing a little research and the Mizuno JPX 825 Pros have sparked my interest and after reading golf digests equipment issue so have Taylormades rocketbladez. My price range is up to 800. Let me know what you think about the JPX and rocketbladez. Then recommend what you think will fit my game and what else out there is in My price range please! I'm really just wanting a set of irons that will last me a while so I don't feel like I have to constantly upgrade to something else. Thanks guys

Take a serious look at the Callaway XHots.

In my  bag:

Driver, Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 9.5 stiff

3, 5 woods: Callaway Diablo Edge Tour 15,18 degrees Stiff

2 hybrid: Callaway Diable Edge Tour 18 degrees R (out when the 5 wood is in)

3,6 hybrids: Callaway Diablo Edge 21 S and 30 degrees R

4,5 hybrids: Callaway Razr X HL 24 and 27 degrees Stiff

7-AW irons: Callaway Razr HL graphite R shafts

SW 54 Callaway X Series Jaws CC Slate Fujikura Graphite Stiff

Putter: Odessey White Ice 1 Blade Putter.

Ball...looking for any ball that hates water, sand, long grass, and getting lost in the woods.

I can't find any, so forced to use ones that seem to love all the above.

Let me summarize, all of the brands are very nice. I am not quite as good of a golfer as you are (break 90 regularly but have yet to break 85). That being said, I recently demoed lots of different clubs. The titleist ap, ping i20 / g25, Taylor made rocket bladez, etc all felt great. The only club I personally didn't like was the Wilson staff, but others on the forum do. My point is that $800 if you are only looking for irons is plenty to consider almost anything out there. I decided I liked this way the pings felt the best and had the opportunity to get a ping fitting at pings facility in Phoenix and decided on ping g25s. I was hoping to get the i20s but after 40 minutes of hitting balls, the g25 had a much tighter dispersion than the I series. I think the point is that all of the brands have great clubs, and you should get the ones that you like the best and be sure to get fit for them. If you are hoping to get a full bag or more than just irons with your budget, I would suggest looking at the ping g20s, because they are last years model they are a little cheaper, but you can still order a totally custom set from ping which is a very nice benefit. Also, I don't know about you, but buying golf clubs is fun, you get to hit balls and have sales people tell you all the time that your swing is much better than a 18 handicap (which makes me happy, but it should make me cry to realize I am just that bad of a putter)

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Ahhh you got me there haha. I saw those in golf digest and didn't like the looks and have never had interest in callaway irons. I may have to test them out though

Love my G25's from the time I hit them in the Ping bay to each round I have played so far.

Great balance with the CFS shafts and they just fit my swing.

mizuno jpx pros give them a try and then try them again after you are fitted with the correct shaft for your swing

how do you go about getting fitted for your irons? I live in a small town with only a couple holf shops and I'm not sure they do club fitting

I was reading about the difference between gps and rangefinders at gettingonthegreen.com site and stumbled on a site called gigagolf.com which looks promising. I guess they sell custom fitted clubs that looks like the brand names but the prices are a lot better. I was looking at the TRX V.11 irons because they look like my Taylormade Burner irons. Their set sold for $120 whereas I paid $499 for my Burners.

    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
