Bridgestone B330 RX vs. Bridgestone B330 RXS

I have now played a few rounds with the B330 RX and it is a major improvement over the E6.  Apparently the B330 RXS is similar to the RX but has more spin.  Has anyone out there played both the RX and RXS and care to chime in with their opinions on the difference between the two of them?  I'm guessing that since the RXS spins more that there is a bit of distance loss versus the regular RX?  How much more spin does the RXS provide?  Is it too much spin?  Since I did not buy too many RX balls I am getting ready to put an order in and am considering getting the RXS but would like to hear from people that have used both balls before I make a decision.  Thanks.

I could not tell much difference but I'm not a scratch player either. Perhaps RXS is a bit higher flight off full shots and driver. Felt about the same on greens -- both very good off my White Ice insert. Maybe a little bit softer around greens. I have a driver SS of 97-103 and I am not a spin it back guy with wedges. I'm looking for stop or very little rollout -- not zip it back. Both seem to do that. Perhaps a bit better stopping with the RXS but my swings are not consistent enough for me to be sure. I am sure that the soft feel is good on both. I have never played a RXS in the wind. RX holds up well in the wind and my belief that RXS spins more and launches higher has kept it in the bag on windy days.

Biggest reason I play RX over RXS is color. I love yellow balls. Love being one of the only yellow guys on the course and the only yellow ball in my group.

I played the original and second generation versions of the RX and RXS.

My take is the RXS spins more on partial and delicate shots around the green. It's very handy. You will get a bit more distance from the RX. But that all depends on your consistency.

Try both and decide.

I tried the RX and thought it felt very hard and didn't perform as well as I expected around the green.  I prefer the feel and green-side performance of the RXS.

Thanks for your feedback!  I just ordered some RXS's!

I'm really excited because the RX feels like butter to me so I cannot wait to get the RXS.  I'm not too concerned about distance, I'd rather be consistent with distance every time than be able to hit the ball super far.  I just wish the RXS came in yellow because I love yellow balls (wait, that did not sound right, "I love yellow balls", but you know what I mean, I hope).

BJ -- I played both and really like both.  For me at least, there wasn't a big difference in distance but -- as stated above -- I got a little more "bite" from the RXS on shorter shorts which is why I prefer that version.  But I wanted to point out that whatever distance you might lose using the RXS isn't huge compared to the RX. It's not like you'll lose 10% or your distance with the RXS or anything.

If you're bored sometime and have 20 bucks to burn, getting a ball fitting at Golf Galaxy (or similar store) is interesting.  After hitting several balls, the sensors record the average of various data points (launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, side spin, etc).  Based on that, you'll get a printout which lists a boatload of different balls and how they will perform (in theory) with your swing based on each ball's compression, core, cover, characteristics, etc.

For each ball it will give information such as projected average distance, projected average deviation (i.e. right/left) distance, rating for spin around the greens, etc.

I like to do it once a year or so just to see, and find it interesting.

I played the RXS's this past weekend.  Most of the things that were said were true.  I noticed a minor loss of distance with the RXS vs. the RX, however, in certain situations I noticed more bite/spin on the RXS vs. the RX.  This little extra bite saved me on three different holes this past weekend.  I was in greenside bunkers and hit out with the ball stopping very quickly and twice spinning backwards to the hole.  I made all three putts to get up and down.  I had that same situation with the RX and the ball stopped pretty quickly, but not as fast as the RXS and the ball definitely did not back up at all.

I notice a small difference with my putter and while I prefer the RXS with my putter, the RX would be fine to putt with.  I think that I am going to play either the RX or RXS moving forward.  Depending on the circumstances, I can pick which ball would be better.

Well I really like the RX myself. I've never played the RX-S, but now I'm intrigued by it because of this thread.

Frankly, I find the RX itself spins really well. Though I always like to get a bit of a run on approach and greenside shots, as opposed to drop-and-stop.

So, if i'm not mistaken:

RX-S ≈ Pro V1
RX ≈ Pro V1x

I'm not sure as I have never played the Pro V1 or Pro V1x but I think your comparison may be right based on what I've been told and what I've read about those balls.

I am thankful that I was playing the RXS yesterday because on the par 4 fourth hole at my country club which is about 375 yards, I crushed a drive that went just over 300 yards and was a foot short of the water.  Had it been an RX I may have been in the water.....

Feel off the putter is firmER on both RX and RXS than ProV1. So, if you are like me and find ProV1 too mushy on all but the fastest greens, you may like the RX line better. Around the green on little chips and pitches, the RX and RXS roll out much more than the ProV1 for me. I never played the ProV1x much because it seemed the worst of all things for my game. But I think the RX and RXS stop faster around the greens compared to the ProV1x off my club. YMMV.

This is one of the many reasons I'm simply no longer tempted by the ProV1 hype...

Other reasons:

-Generally designed for higher swing speeds and lower handicaps. [that's... definitely not me.]
-Urethane cover - Fabergé egg fragile... one cart path or rock = range ball.
-They generate a ton of spin, but hit 'em wrong, and they'll spin the wrong way too...

-I hate doing the trendy thing.

-I'm just not good enough to be hitting a $4.00 ball...

(I know, the B'stones are also $45 a box, but the ones I used I found in the woods...)

WalkTheCourse - I do not pay full price.  I cannot justify that at all.  I buy my balls online from lostgolfballs.com.  I have used them for a while and while the shipping rates are very high, the prices and quality are reasonable in my opinion.  I think I am paying about $21 or $22 for a dozen Tour B330 RX/RXS which I think is an okay price.  While the prices of the balls brand new is ridiculous, I also do not want to play a piece of crap ball that I cannot do anything with either......

I think there is a pretty significant difference in performance between the dual dimple and the older non-dual-dimple balls. It may be in my head, but I think the dual dimple is longer, better in the wind, and spins a bit more around the green. So, if buying used, make sure you know what you are getting.

  • 1 year later...

I've tried the RX, RXS, E6, and E5.  Driver speed of about 93 and fairly low launch hitter.  I liked the RX up until I got to my long irons and woods.  Then didn't get enough spin to keep the ball airborne and carry distance suffered.  The RXS was a much better fit, much more forgiving for me.  Spin was about the same on the shorter irons however.  In comparing them to the E6 and E5...the E6 was also one I had a hard time getting good carry on my woods, but very soft feel on the irons and putting.  The E5 honestly provided about the same kinds of distances and trajectory as the RXS but felt slightly harder.  While the E5 is less expensive and performed pretty much the same, I did like the feel of the RXS.  I think I could play either the E5 of RXS and never tell a difference in how I played.

I would say if you swing faster than I do, or have a naturally higher ball flight you would probably prefer the RX, but for me the RXS was definitely the better match.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
