Starting holes round 1 and 2 at US Open question

This has probably been asked and aswered but I could not find it doing a search, so apologies for asking.....

With some players starting on the front 9 and some starting on the back 9 during rounds 1 and 2, why did those on the back 9 start on hole #11 instead of hole #10?

It was because of the location of #10's tee boxes. It was easier and made more sense logistically to start them on #11.

They did the same thing in 08 at Torrey. They guys who started on the "back" actually started on 9 because of logistics.

And last year's US Open as well, start on 1 and 9. It's just about logistics.

For specifics, Merion was designed with the old-style OUT and IN routing. The No. 9 green and No. 10 tee are on the far edge of the course, not near the clubhouse. Also, one of the major course roads runs behind No. 11 tee, providing a path to shuttle groups into position for the start.
