Any Australians out there? Is "The Chief" popular slang for a driver?

Jason Day referred to his driver as "The Chief" in a press conference. Is that widely used in Australia?

It doesn't appear on my handy Australian Slang Dictionary either.  I use this when I talk to my friends in Oz.

Abo for "head honcho"?

Reminds me of the time I needed a bigger pipe wrench and went to a neighbor's house to borrow one after another neighbor told me where there was a big one.    At the door I asked to borrow the wrench, and the guy said "Ah!  El grande colorado!"
