Well, since we've now got this group, I think I'll start it off with a deal post for an excellent deal for one of the state's top-ranked courses,  the Castle Course at Northern Bay Resort, the course north of the Dells with the following replica holes:

-Augusta National 16th

-

Here's the course website:

http://www.northernbayresort.com/golf/the-castle-course-wisconsin-dells-area-golf

This deal is through Get My Perks, which is like Groupon or Living Social (no cost to join, I've got no affiliation with the company except as a repeat customer), and I've bought discounted greens fees from them a bunch of times over the past several years for Tumbledown Trails in Middleton, Baraboo CC, and Deer Valley in Barneveld.  I've never had a problem with the greens fees being honored and unlike the deals on golfnow.com where you're locked in to a specific tee time, you can pick and change the date and time (with some limitations).  The original deal is 50% off the normal $90 greens fees (includes cart w/GPS and range balls), but it's good only Mondays through Thursdays (all day) and Sundays after 12pm, with tee time made in advance - it's not valid on Fridays, Saturdays, or holidays.  I discovered a promotional code good for an additional 30% off:

frugal30

so I paid only $31.50 including taxes and fees.  Don't know how long that code will work, though, but it worked yesterday.  If you go for this deal and click through the following link, I'll get an extra $10 referral credit, too:

or if you don't feel like it or if such self-serving links are not allowed here, you can just go to

www.getmyperks.com

Hope that helps start this group off on a good note.  I've not yet played this course but I've heard that it's very pretty, a lot of fun to play, and a terrific course.

In my bag: - Ping G20 driver, 10.5 deg. S flex - Ping G20 3W, 15 deg., S flex - Nickent 4dx 3H, 4H - Nike Slingshot 4-PW - Adams Tom Watson 52 deg. GW - Vokey 58 deg. SW -Ping Half Wack-E putter

Nice I have a co-worker who was there last week and said it was awesome.  Great Idea for this group thread BTW.

Just got an email from the Wisconsin State Golf Association(WSGA).  First hopefully you guys are members of the WSGA and second they have a deal for members to get two free rounds of golf when you stay at Grand Geneva resort.  My wife and I stayed there last year and it was very nice.

It is for handicap purposes, tournaments and discounts, things like that.  They offer a season pass as well that lets you play a round at no additional charge other than the pass charge at many different courses.  They host the State AM as well as a bunch of other tournaments, including a senior amateur player tour even.  You can even take a satellite tour of a course hole by hole and measure distances and see how the course lays out.  I do my course scouting that way.  You can also select friends and email them and see how they are playing.  Here are a couple links for you.

This is from the second link:

The Wisconsin State Golf Association was formed and exists for the general purpose of promoting and conserving, throughout the State of Wisconsin, the best interests and the true spirit of the game of golf. Included within the general purpose are:

  • To cooperate with and assist the United States Golf Association and other recognized golf associations in the promotion and advancement of the game of golf.
  • To hold a Wisconsin amateur championship each year and to promote and sponsor such other tournaments as may be approved by the Board of Directors.
  • To establish or adopt and maintain a uniform handicap system and a uniform system for measuring and rating individual golf courses.
  • To promote and assist in funding of scholarships for caddies, or other approved golf-related individuals or purposes, either alone or in conjunction with other golf associations.
  • To do and perform all other related acts necessary to carry out the general purposes and the foregoing specific purposes. This may include promoting and sponsoring of golf trips for the benefit of members of association clubs and courses.

Sorry to de-rail further but I just joined the WSGA after reading this. One of those coupons will pay for itself. A deterrant for me prior this this post was I thought you had to actually be a member of your home club. Twilight golf at Westridge in Neenah starts at 3pm and it's $23 including a cart. I would have to golf 4 times a week from here on out for a membership to payoff. Although I would love to do that, we just bought a our first house and I have a 4 month old at home and I would be on the fast track to the dog house if I golfed that much. Even though I tell her how am I ever going to go pro if she doesn't let me practice more! (She understands my sense of humor thankfully)

Yeah, you just have to pick a course as your home course.  You do not have to be a member.  That is what I thought at first as well.  It is a great organization, essentially it is our local USGA.
