That's what i read. Seems most of the  pros use single digit loft, like 9. Few go with 10.5 but i have never heard of a pro, esp of Phil's caliber, using such a high loft.  Surely he would gain some yards with lower loft and ball flight but maybe this high loft prevents some slicing, one of Phil's headaches. Well, his headaches are few just now and maybe the 3W at 290 yds is enough for him

He carries 8 degree loft in 2012.  His 3 wood has 13 degree loft.  Sometimes he's known to carry two drivers but I don't think either one was a 13 loft driver.

Look up Phrankenwood.

This has been all over every golf site for months.

And.....many use higher lofted drivers. Dustin Johnson for one uses a 10.5 degree.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

i heard it was actually 12*, and not a 'driver', per se... more of a 2wood without the label.

yes, i'm aware of the Phrankenwood -- i was basing what i wrote off what i heard during the Open Championship.  the commentators noted Phil was using a 12* strong 3wood that was more like a 2wood.  turns out it was actually 13*.

According to the PGA website, he used the Callaway X Hot 3 Deep 13* with a Fubuki K 70x shaft for the Open.

I'm pretty sure he used the XHot 3 wood/2wood dealio in both victories. It may not have been the original but it was the next in the line.

Phil was playing the Xhot 3Deep which increased the height of the face as Phil typically hit the Xhot Pro above the sweet spot (from what I read). The 3Deep helps with that and ensures optimal launch and spin numbers for Phil. I believe the loft was 13*.

Any loft less than 15* must conform to 'trampoline effect' rules. As far as i know that rule is the only thing that identifies a 'driver' club. But, i could be mistaken. Won't be the first time.
