Low on moeny and time I am looking for ways to practice where I can kinda measure results. I would love to get lessons, but don't see that happening in the forseeable future.

I can go practice chipping and putting for free and the range isnt to bad, but I would also like to see if there is any way I can practice without actually hitting the ball.

Also I watched some of the 5sk videos and can tell when I am not keeping my head still or shifting the weight, but gotta get it more consistent. Thanks for any help

Sure, you can practice without hitting balls. You say you have already watched instructional videos. Now set up a video station for you to watch your swing. I'd work on hitting positions and check your work by watching the video. What you feel and what you are actually doing may be very different. Slow everything down and learn what it feels like when you make make a perfect backswing. Very slow. How are your hips moving? Feet? Arms and shoulders? Head? Do it over and over, slowly, watching each one on video. Best to have a ball in place, but you need not hit it.

Video tape a close up of your grip and compare it to instructional videos. Getting the feel for a correct grip is likely the best thing any golfer can do.

Mirrors can be used too.

You can also find some drills that work on positions.

Also, if you're pretty hands on, you can construct your own hitting net at home. You can also make it your video station. Here's a link to more information. http://thesandtrap.com/t/53895/hitting-into-a-net

Some will argue that you can't see your ball flight, but all you need to focus on with the net is making solid contact and doing that means improving your positions in the golf swing.

Ryan

Absolutely.  If you read enough stuff on here from iacas or mvmac, you'll see that they are relly keen on a lot of practicing in front of a mirror, slow motion swings without a ball, even without a club, just trying to feel positions, and movements, etc.

I don't know that that practice is technically "measurable" but it can be very productive.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Thanks for the input guys. I would love to build a net but it would have to be able to collapse and nothing looked like it could in those posts. Def something to look into when we get a house though! I went out and swung for a little bit tonight in a small field in our apartment complex. Really focused on slowing down and trying to do the first 2 steps in the 5sk. Everything felt really good and can't wait to practice some more.

My local course doesnt have a driving range (no range within 40 mins), so I have been taking advantage of a local soccer field to practice my short irons. Really seeing improvement in all aspects of golf game (except putting- my new focus).
