Top-Flite Tour Irons or Buy newer???

Ok, I have been away from golf for several years for various reasons.  Little League, hunting, fishing, etc.  BUT my whole family is now wanting to play so of course I am excited to get back in.  I know I need to upgrade my Driver and fairway woods, and probably need a Rescue club as well as my woods are older Callaway Hawkeye.  My irons are Top-Flite Tour cavity back irons.  I don't have any complaints about them, but I am wondering if new ones would/could be an improvement.  Any thoughts or perspective?  Thanks.

If you have the money, new clubs could be beneficial as they will have new technology, however if there is nothing "wrong" with the ones you have I'd wait until the off season and buy clubs on sale.

The older TFT was similar to the 845s and are decent clubs. When I came back to golf in 2012 after not playing since the 90's I played older iron sets until the scores starting getting somewhat consistent. I'd gut it out with the TFT until you're convinced you've made enough progress to make spending the money worthwhile. I noticed the biggest differences in woods and putters so it made playing the older irons bearable.

These are the thoughts I am having of replacing my woods then replacing the irons later.  BUT if someone had said that distance might be increased by 10+ yards, I would probably go get a new set of irons now.  Thanks all.

I did pick up a little distance all things being equal, same loft and length etc. I couldn't care less about that. But I do care about how much more forgiving the new clubs are. That is a massive difference.

Which Top Flite Tours? You may be doing yourself a disservice. The 2003 have a cult following and are known as being as good as anything out there today, believe it, or not.. 2003 TFT
