Tee Time thread f/u ... do you play when you can/prefer - OR - when it's cheapest ?

From reading the Tee Time thread ... when it comes to weekend play - seems many guys play golf around family commitments or just general preferences (not a morning person, like to play late in the day because course isn't busy, etc).     I'm fortunate to usually be able to arrange my schedule around golf & play when it's cheapest (I'm a Golfnow - Hot Deal cheapskate), and only occasionally play early if I really want to & am willing to pony up & pay through the nose for the premium tee slots.

So, my question is with regard to weekend play ... do you play golf at the time you prefer regardless of price; or are you a golf bottomfeeder like me & play whenever it's cheapest ??

I got a yearly pass to a course in February - so I can play whenever I want without paying anything for now.  But before that, I was a bottmfeeder like you.  Found different ways to get a deal - including a good bit of golf now and late afternoon hope-we-finish type of golf.

Some courses are $60+ at 8am and $29 or so in the afternoon.  The way I see it, I'll just do whatever non-golf things I'm going to do that day scheduled around the cheap golf.  That way I get to play twice as often for the same money.

I play when I can--always a balancing act to keep the wife happy when I work all week and try to squeeze a round in on the weekend. That usually means as early as possible; I'll leave the house at 0430 to make a 0700 tee time. And since I'm looking for the first time of the day, I pay what it costs.

We play every Sat morning 95% of the time, the other 5% is after 12:00 when we have a deal. If Sun, we have to be home in time for Church at 6:00pm.But paying for two plus lesions we have to look for deals. Some times we get them and some times we don't, but I use golfnow, groupgolf when we can. Groupgolf is great we played Whitter Narrows Sat for $47 at 12 noon, $37 for me and $9 for my son, that came with range balls, cart and lunch, normal hot dog, chips had to by a drink.

We also buy a $100 range key that we get 40% more balls for buying it at this price at La Mirada GC buy our house.

I don't feel that it has to do with being a bottom feeder it is pure economics.

The more I play the more of a cheapskate I've become, mostly because I'm seeing very little difference in quality from $20 to $100+ courses in my area.  I played a round that cost me $50 (golfnow fire deal) a couple weeks ago and it was a very nice course, but I won't be doing that again.  I can play multiple other courses that are 85-90% as nice for half the price or less.

I have a golf membership so twilight rates and late day deals are a non-factor.........

During prime season, I am a "dawn patrol" player.  I play 18 holes and I'm usually home by 9-10am.........unless I decided to play 27...and then I am home by NOON. When I had a regular group....we'd play 18 holes in 3hrs.

On 1 occasion, I played 36 holes and was finished at NOON!!   On that day, I teed off as a single and played 18 holes before the group following me made the turn....so I played the back again as a single while the course was still empty............then I paired-up with a group on #1 and finished 36 holes in time for lunch........LOL

I don't like to follow....so I lead the way............. fun golf is not waiting for slow golfers!!......so I go first!

Same for me, but even when going to another course, I try to get the earliest tee time I can, I play a lot before 7AM in the summer time.

I like to tee off as early as possible on a weekend usually 6 or 7am. I am finished around 9 or 10 am and I avoid the 5-6 hour rounds following the "weekend" groups that arrive latter in the day.
