Every start of a season I like many get all my clubs re-gripped. Here is my dilemma. I used to use multi compounds a few years back in mid-sized. Grips are a bit too expensive for my liking now. I went to VDR reds with 2 wraps. They are very difficult to find as of now. I than tried Tour Velvet ribbed and hated them. Very uncomfortable. I now use the Golf Pride niions organelles color. This season I think I want to re visit mid size grips and was thinking of the Tour Velvets non ribbed. I know there are a few older threads about tour Velvets. Was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on tour Velvets. Are the regular Velvets better feeling than the ribbed ?

I haven't actually ever used the ribbed version on a club but I have felt them in the shop and I don't like them at all. The normal tour velvets are classic and it's hard not to like them... Also if you have an adjustable driver that you need to turn the shaft for make sure you get the 360 version so you don't have any issues in different positions.

Take a look at "Lamkin - Crossline Midsize"

VDR Reds are still available on Ebay.

Thanks for the info on the VDR grips. I have actually had cross lines at one point. I didn't really care for them. Not sure I will go the online route for grips. I think I may put a few Tour Velvets on my driver 3 wood hybrid and 7 iron to test out during the winter. I still may consider the multi coms. But the price is just not going to work for me.

I put Tour Velvet mid size on my driver, 3 wood, 20 degree hybrid, and 7 iron. Not sure I like the mid size. I normally used 2 wraps under my grips. Is it possible that I am just not use to them yet? Only hit for 30 minutes with them. I will see how I hit with them tomorrow.

If they feel to fat, try stretching the grips before you install them. This will make them longer and slightly narrowed, thinner.

The grips you have installed, may be removed using compressed air.

You may need to take the clubs to Goldsmith or a store which has capabilities to remove them.

Call and ask if they can remove the grips.

Or, cut them off and replace them. It's only the loss of a couple of grips and chalk it up to 'experimental trial'

After cleaning the grips off last night and letting them dry I took them to the hitting bays today and was a lot more comfortable and hitting solid shots.

  • 3 weeks later...
I have been hitting some push slices with my irons. The problem is the contact feels very good and flight looks good. Would a mid size grip add to a push slice or is it my swing mechanics and grips have nothing to do with it.
