We are trying to make a little money for our golf program here at the university, and we were brainstorming.  I came up with the idea of a junior golf camp.  We have a better schedule than a lot of schools, and I would like to keep it that way.  The problem is, I don't know where to begin.  I have to talk to our AD still, about us working with children (thanks Sandusky), and also the golf course.  I have yet to find out how much they would charge for 3 hours a day for a weekend.

My question is, where do I begin?  What kind of games do the kids play.  I was thinking about if we had 60 people show up, we would divide them into 4 groups and have 30 minutes or so at each station.  Stations being chipping, putting, full swing, and etiquette.

I have read previous posts about it, but I would like a little help.

Thanks always,

Nick

I wouldn't know how to run a golf camp but I know from running baseball camps that the most important thing with a bunch of kids is safety.

The last thing you need are a whole bunch of kids with bats (or golf clubs) in their hands suddenly getting the urge to swing (which they will) just about the time another kid gets too close.

I grew up going to a lot of junior golf camps, and I think you're on the right track. From what I can recall, the stations were typically full swing, chipping, putting, and etiquette/rules.

Apart from safety, as @MS256 pointed out, I think the main key is to not take it too seriously. Kids are there to have fun first, and hopefully learn something in the process. If you try to make it into a serious training camp, you're going to lose interest rapidly.

If you're going to have 6 hours total on the weekend, my suggestion would be to start it at 9 have 45 minutes at each of the four stations on Saturday, then serve lunch. On Sunday, start at 9, have a few minutes at each station, then (if the course will allow you) let the kids play three holes. Of course that will depend on how many kids you have and if the course will allow you to take up space during a weekend.

As far as games, a pitch and putt contest, longest drive, closest to the hole, and closest to the line (straightest drive) are just a few things I can think of.

I mean how do I present the idea to him?  How to get him to "buy into" the idea.
