modernizing an antique putter

I have not seen any articles on this which Is suprising but I am sure it has been done. I have a turn of the century brass putter head that I would like to outfit with a modern shaft and grip. problem is the hosel has such a narrow hole that I cannot find any shafts narrow enough to fit. I am contemplating widening the hosel hole to fit a new shaft. I would like to avoid this as I don't want to destroy a piece of history. any suggestions?

I would bring it to a club maker and find out.  A good club maker will have access to a lot more shafts and adapters.  They may also be able to bore out the hosel to fit a larger shaft diameter.

Could you have a plug made with one end the diameter of the putter hosel and the other end the inside diameter of a putter shaft?  Glue the plug into the putter and cut the shaft to fit over the other end of the plug.  That way you wouldn't need to make any modifications to the putter head itself.

have you pulled the old shaft yet? Why wont you post a pic? Ive been a professional club repair guy for over 32 years and it's really heard to give good advice or help you out if I cant see what you have...is there a name on it?
