NOOOOOOOOO NOT YOU PURPLE JESUS!! http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=11514522
Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted by a Montgomery County, Texas, grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child, according to multiple media reports. Montgomery County sheriff investigators said they received the case earlier this year and that Peterson has been cooperative with them. The Montgomery County District Attorney's office told ESPN that Peterson has not been arrested.
I have not been this sad in a while. Probably since Richard Sherman stole my lunch money.

This is what I hate about reporters these days ... in their race to be the first to report a story, they forget to actually gather, you know, information, for said story.

Are they saying that he committed child abuse?  Are they saying that he allowed his kid to run around in the street?  Is this in reference to the kid they mentioned that he only knew about for one month?  Are they saying that its his fault that the moms boyfriend beat it up?

I have absolutely no idea what's going on here. :loco:

Yup. Journalists need to be better! I promise to change this. Remember the name. ;-)

Wow, this sucks! From the few articles I've read through, it sounds like it has something to do with him disciplining his 11 year-old son with a switch. Obviously, none of these articles have any detail what-so-ever. In general, I think our society has become so soft it's ridiculous. Everyone is so concerned with how others discipline their children. You can't even spank a child without having to worry that they'll be taken away. Of course, there is still a distinction between discipline and abuse.

In regards to this specific situation, I want a lot more details before I make any sort of judgment.

For reference - I am a huge Vikes fan and do not have children, yet. I hope this doesn't turn out to be bad.

Me too. And my favorite NFL Player of all time. Apparently he admitted to "whooping" his son in a leaked police report. http://deadspin.com/report-adrian-peterson-indicted-in-child-injury-case-1634160368 Doesn't look to be a major deal thus far. He whooped his child's ass it looks like. No punches or anything like that. We shall see* *I have some serious man-love for AP. So I am biased.

The fact that the charges were brought against him in Texas actually says a lot about how severe it must have been, as they are one of the states that actually allow beating kids in school openly..Then again they could be coming after him just to get the towns name in the media.

My first question and it is an obvious one.. When will the Vikings release AP?  and when will the NFL suspend him indefinitely?

Child abuse if that is what it turns out to be is pretty high in my dirt bag list of activities

Unless he absolutely beat the shit out of him, I don't see either of those happening.

Maybe not.. In the end it will be a judgement call..

If convicted by the State, this will weigh very heavily and senators will start writing the NFL the same way they did with Ray Rice asking for a 0 tolerance policy for child abuse just like they did for 0 tolerance policy for spouse abuse.

There is no doubt that Ray Rice was on the tail end of his career and the NFL has no issue in suspending him the way they did after the video came out, but they will be hard pressed to do the same with AP who is by all means a huge star in the NFL with some star milage left.

I just had this conversation with my brother, and basically came to the conclusion that the NFL might start sliding down a slippery slope very soon where they find out that they have to start suspending players on a weekly basis for off field issues just like this, these guys are pretty much all muscle heads with high running testosterone, and with the media coverage these days every small and big incident is widely reported and well known to everyone!

Of course what I am saying might not come to fruition, but it might be a worst case scenario depending on how bad AP "Whooped" his kid!

Same. Reports seem to indicate that he gave his boy a good ole' fashioned disciplinary ass whoopin'. Which I don't have a problem with. I got my ass whooped.

From what I understand, AP basically just gave his son an old fashioned ass whuppin. For me, this is miles different from knocking your fiancé out with a cold right hook. Edit: LOL...Me and Slice of Life just described AP's actions with the same words at the same time

One of you should quickly say "jinx." :-P

I'm not sure that a switch qualifies as your average ass whooping though.  I don't know ... maybe it does?

But that sounds pretty dadgum painful to me.

I understand.. probably a lot more than most as this is natural for me, and I received my fair share of ass whoopins..

The concerning part for AP is that this is Texas which is very loose with allowing ass whuppin as you call it.. Which begs the question of if it was what you are describing or something more severe.  At what point would you say he stepped over the line?  What if news came out that he broke his sons arm or leg would you still feel the same way?  I am only laying out different scenarios as I don't have all the information yet, but remember a child can't protect himself either.. especially if the Father is on a testosterone rage!  Which is a possibility we can't rule out yet.

Well....It was a BIG ass whuppin lol. He certainly isn't the first person to get wacked by a switch! It does not feel good. I reserve comment, because I have not met his 11 year old kid. We don't know what he did to deserve such a severe punishment.

Fair enough.. Although, I still maintain the fact these charges being brought up in Texas point to the fact that this could be a lot more than just a good ol' fashion ass whuppin..

I'll wait till the full story is known I guess!
