Looks like Trump is going to have the 9th Hole at Turnberry turned into a par 3 over the sea.

Here is an aerial image of the original hole. The yellow line is 245 yards out from the tee box where the Tour Players play from. The yellow line is where I think the green might be closely put. Knowing Trump he would want the cliffs to come into play as much as possible.

The ninth is a pretty boring hole right now. Making it into a par three nearer the water would be cool.

NO NO NO NO a 1000x NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

That is the coolest tee shot on the coolest hole on my favorite course I've ever played. I even got to hit from the way back tee my last round there, they close it off because its right on the cliffs in the ocean and is sometimes unstable. But no one was around and my caddie said go ahead. TOO COOL!

I knew Trump would f@#$ up that course.

Oh man what a dumba$$.

Beyond belief. He can't get there with two shots anyway

And that will make the championship par 69 so he will have to mess up another hole to get it back up to 70.

Hey iacas, if you've played there and didn't like that tee shot from the back tee, i sure don't understand---

I have. Filmed there too - I could lean 20° into the wind and not fall over.

The tee shot was fine, but the second shot was a snooze, and the cliffs and the water there are much more entertaining. The tee shot will basically be exactly the same, except rather than flying the cliffs by 40 yards, you'll have to drop a long iron pretty close to them. The tee box and direction of play are going to stay about the same.

I'm not bogged down in keeping things historical just because they've always been that way.

Right now it is a 450 yard par 4, and normally the cliffs don't come into play at all for the standard golfer. They just sit off to the right, and you really don't hit over them.

So they would be taking about 215 yards off the hole. I am sure they could add a few new tee boxes here and there for the PGA Tour players to get that back up.

Right now the course sits at 7200 yards from the tips. It played around 6900 yards in 1994 for The Open. So it isn't like it is suffering on length.

I think making it a par 3 is a pretty good idea. I think bringing the cliffs more into play makes it a much more exciting hole.

I sure don't think things should never be changed, but the rock in the fairway is pretty iconic too, and it will go away or just be a rock in a field.

I never had a problem when they changed 18, played it both ways and that was a good change. But 9 is different.

And the average golfer won't get to hit from the back tees, so the cliffs will only really come into play at the Open.

I don't like it but hey, its Trumps money and he keeps forgetting to call me for advice, so whatever. Odds are I won't go back again anyway.

And its cool if I'm the only one upset by this :)
