I am about to treat myself to a new Driver so i want to go and try a few different brands and models out but my local course hasn't got that many to chose from and are only limited to the older models.

I have been online at American Golf and they have got all the latest models in and do a fitting day if you book it online.

Has anyone had one of these at an American golf store, the fitting day looks good but the clubs seem to be a bit more expensive there?

AG do price match so if you see the same club cheaper, before you pay! they will match it! As with any store, you will have good and bad staff, have a chat before you book, explain you want to try different heads/shafts/lengths etc. if they know that you know your stuff, they won't cut corners, however if you get a poor staff member, who thinks your knowledge is ltd, he may rush the process and cut corners resulting in you not buying the best club for you, but instead the club that makes most profit for them! So go armed with knowledge, be chatty, take your current driver to compare, and if at any point your unsure or not happy with the service, just leave! They usually have the GC2 or trackman, which are both good at giving you the data, the only downside is it is an indoor fitting so you don't really get to see the flight of the ball! I got some irons fitted there, I wasn't particularly happy with their service/fitter, but I would use them again because I now have the knowledge, plus they have virtually every club available to try!

OK thanks. Do you know if they price match anywhere including places that have online sales going on and pro shops?

Is there anywhere that does the outdoor fitting service or is this mainly a pro shop thing if they have a driving range?

I was fitted for the majority of my clubs at AG New Malden and they've always been top notch. They're happy to let you chop and change things until the numbers and what you feel are right for you so I'd definitely recommend it. Also at New Malden there's the World of Golf driving range so you can even go out and see real time ball flight (as real as possible with crap range balls of course)

Give Direct Golf a try as well (if ther is one local to you). They always seen to have a good selection of clubs and you can try them out on the instore simulators. They also provide free swing and club MOT's

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Thanks for all the info.

Quick question, i have been offered a Callaway Big Bertha Alpha driver by a friend that doesn't get on with it.

I can buy it quite cheap for £120 as opposed to £350 in the shops, it comes with the reg flex stock shaft. AT this price would it be cheaper to gamble on this then go get it fitted after and even if i need a different shaft would it work out a lot cheaper?

I'm thinking then i might be able to sign up for Evolvr or get the 5sk as well as buying a new driver?

Thanks,

Lee

Thing is if you don't get on with it at all you've wasted £120.

I've never had to pay for a fitting at AG even when I've not bought clubs afterward so maybe tell them you're looking at a new driver and would like to book a fitting. Then on the day give them a couple of ideas on clubs you like the look of and which would be in your budget (of which the Big Bertha will be one of course) and see what the fitting brings. You might find that you're fitted for a stock regular flex and that the weight and feel of the stock flex Big Bertha is spot on for you in which case £120 is a bargain.

You might also find that the Big Bertha head is too big/small, too heavy/light, not forgiving enough or you simply don't like the look of it at address and aren't confident with it and you'll have wasted £120 buying it only to have to buy a whole new one with even less funds.
